Tigers Head To CAA Foe Hofstra For Weekend Series

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University softball team will be looking for its first Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) win when the Tigers travel to Hofstra on Saturday, March 28 for a weekend series. The three-game set begins with a doubleheader on Saturday at 12 noon and wraps up with a single game on Sunday at 12 noon.

Towson enters this weekend with a 10-11 record and a 0-3 mark in CAA play. The Tigers are returning to action after splitting a mid-week doubleheader at Villanova, winning game one 6-2 before falling 1-0 in a rain-shortened game two.

The Tigers used home runs by freshman Brook Miko and sophomore Holiday Cahill in their victory over the Wildcats. Freshman Megan Dejter threw seven innings and gave up just one earned run on six hits with five strikeouts.

Miko leads the Tigers' offense with a .386 batting average. She has a team-high 22 hits for the season and currently has a nine-game hitting streak.

Senior Missy McCormick and Dejter have split the Tigers' pitching efforts, both throwing more than 50 innings. McCormick (5-4) enters this weekend with a 3.36 ERA and has a team-high 40 strikeouts. Dejter (3-4) has walked a team-low eight batters this season.

Hofstra has a 12-7-1 overall record and is 3-0 in CAA play after a series sweep of UNCW. The Pride are on a season-high five-game winning streak after having both games of a mid-week doubleheader against Rutgers rained out.

Senior Morgan Lashley leads the Hofstra pitching staff with a 1.35 ERA. She is 8-1 on the season and has won eight consecutive games for the Pride. Junior Chloe Fitzgerald has a team-high .388 batting average and 26 hits on the season.

Towson will wrap up a seven-game road trip with a mid-week doubleheader at George Mason on Tuesday, March 31. The first game is set to begin at 2:30 p.m. Towson will welcome Norfolk State for a doubleheader in the Tigers' home opener on Wednesday, April 1 at 2 p.m.
