GRASONVILLE, Md. – The Towson men's golf team fell back into a tie for sixth-place as play wrapped up on Sunday afternoon at the Whiting-Turner Towson Invitational at Prospect Bay Country Club.
Arkansas carded a tournament-best 287 on Sunday to take home the team title. The nationally-ranked Razorbacks (302-287=589) leaped day one leader William & Mary (300-305=605) early in the round and cruised to a 16-stroke victory.
Seton Hall (613), Robert Morris (614) and Hofstra (622) rounded out the top five. The Tigers (629) tied Long Island (629) for sixth-place in the 22-team field.
Junior
Ryan Siegler was Towson's top finisher with a 151 (73-78). He tied for 11
th overall the 120-player field. Senior
Sam Stewart shot one-under on the front nine on Sunday, but fell back a bit on the back to finish in a tie for 17
th overall with a 153 (76-77).
John Hulede (80-82=162) and
Alex Church (83-80=163) were Towson's other counting scores.
"The story hasn't changed for us," said Towson Head Coach
Brian Yaniger. "We have enough competitive scores, but the bottom half of the lineup is just not contributing, which makes it tough to compete at a high level. We need to find our consistency.
"Given the difficult conditions, the tournament ran well. We were happy to have a full field again and we're proud to host such prestigious universities. We look forward to the continued growth of this event."
The Tigers are back in action April 11-12 at the Northeast Invite at Mohegan Sun.
