NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Sophomore Juan Veloza and senior Sam Stewart each carded their best 54-hole scores of the season as the Towson men's golf team wrapped up play at the 2015 Yale Spring Invitational on Sunday afternoon.
Veloza finished tied for 16th overall in the 74-player that included players from numerous Top 100 teams. The sophomore shot a season-best 216 (69-75-72) over 54 holes.
Stewart finished a stroke behind Veloza, tied for 21st overall. The senior shot 10 strokes better than his best prior 54-hole score this season, carding a 217 (70-75-72).
Towson finished tied with Boston College for 11th overall in the 14-team field. The Tigers carded their best team score of the season with an opening round 286 and followed that up with a 304 in the second round and a final round 298 to finish with an 888, a season best for the Tigers in a 54-hole event.
"The play of Juan and Sam was as good as it has been all spring," said Towson Head Coach Brian Yaniger. "We will need that to continue and get some help from the balance of the lineup as we head to the CAA championship next week."
Wake Forest (825) won the tournament by 28 strokes over Clemson (853). Virginia (854), Duke (855) and Yale (866) rounded out the Top 5 teams.
Towson will now prepare for the Colonial Athletic Association Championship, which is set to get underway April 24 in Southport, North Carolina.
