NEW YORK – Former Towson All-American forward
Jerrelle Benimon was named to the All-NBA D-League First Team, the league announced Wednesday. Benimon was also a first-team selection to the all-rookie team.
Benimon appeared in 44 games for the Idaho Stampede, the affiliate member of the Utah Jazz. He finished the season averaging 19.8 points, 11.0 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.0 blocks per game. He ranked sixth in the league in rebounding, 10
th in scoring, 19
th in blocks and 20
th in assists.
He scored at least 20 points in a game 27 times, including a pair of games over 30 points. Benimon scored a career-best 36 points against Reno on Dec. 25. He came back five days later and scored 30 points against the same Reno squad.
Benimon finished his first professional season with 24 double-doubles. He pulled down a career-best 19 rebounds against Sioux Falls on March 28. Benimon twice pulled down 18 rebounds in a game.
In just his second game as a pro, Benimon recorded a triple-double with 20 points, 17 rebounds and 12 assists against Reno.
Benimon signed a 10-day contract with the Utah Jazz on March 6. He appeared in two NBA games, averaging 1.5 rebounds per game. He pulled down three rebounds in just over two minutes of action in his debut against the New York Knicks.
Benimon was also selected to the NBA D-League All-Star Game. He was the starting center for the Western Conference and finished with two points, six rebounds and two assists.
