SOUTHPORT, N.C. – The Towson men's golf team shot its fifth-best team round of the season on Sunday as play concluded at the 2015 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Men's Golf Championship at St. James Plantation.
The Tigers fired a 294 (+6) during their final round of the season, finishing in eighth overall at the CAA Championship with a 54-hole score of 911 (311-306-294).
"The guys played better today, but it was a case of too little, too late for this year," said Towson Head Coach
Brian Yaniger. "However, it was nice to end the season on a little better note. These guys know they have a lot of work to do over the summer to be ready to compete at a higher level next year. I am sure they will do all they can to be ready in September."
College of Charleston successfully defended its title with a three-day score of 873, finishing at +9 and 20 strokes ahead of second-place William & Mary (893) and James Madison (893). UNCW was in fourth place with an 895 (+31) while Elon was a stroke behind in fifth place with an 896 (+32). Delaware finished sixth at 898 (+34) while Drexel University was seventh at 903 (+39). The Tigers finished ahead of ninth-place Hofstra (944).
Sophomore
James Grem posted Towson's best individual score of the tournament with an even-par 72 on Sunday. He finished tied for 13th overall in the 45-player field with a 54-hole score of 224 (75-77-72).
Senior
Sam Stewart concluded his collegiate career by firing a one-over 73 during the final round of play. Stewart finished tied for 16th overall with a 225 (76-76-73).
Defending CAA medalist
Juan Veloza finished tied for 25th this year with a 229 (78-77-75), while junior
Ryan Siegler tied for 33rd with a 233 (82-77-74).
Towson will return the bulk of its team for the 2015-16 season.
