Raven and
Raine Bankston have transferred to Towson University from Delaware State University, Tiger women's basketball head coach
Niki Reid Geckeler announced.
The sisters are from Detroit, Michigan and attended John Glenn High School.
As a sophomore at Delaware State, shooting guard Raven Bankston was a Preseason All-MEAC selection who appeared in 10 games and made nine starts before transferring. She averaged 17.1 points per game and scored a season-high 33 points at George Mason. She scored in double figures in nine of the 10 contests. She also contributed 2.9 rebounds per game with 23 assists and 19 steals. As a freshman Raven finished 25
th in the nation in points per game and earned All-MEAC and MEAC All-Rookie honors. She was a three time MEAC Player of the Week and a five time MEAC Rookie of the Week. She appeared in 28 games and averaged 21.3 points per game. She scored in double figures in all but one game and poured in a career-high 38 points against Howard. The 38 points against Howard were the third most in single-game history at Delaware State. Against national powerhouse University of Maryland, Raven scored 22 points. She also contributed 3.3 rebounds per game, 54 assists and 39 steals that season.
In high school, Raven Bankston averaged 23 points and five assists per game as a senior to earn All-State honors. She was ranked as the eighth best player in the state of Michigan.
At Delaware State, point guard Raine Bankston appeared in 10 games last year for the Hornets before transferring. She averaged 9.4 points per game and scored a career-high 19 points against Northern Illinois. She scored in double figures in four games and averaged 2.3 rebounds per game. She also had 27 assists and 10 steals. As a freshman she started the first five games of the year before suffering a season-ending injury. She averaged 7.6 points and 3.6 assists per game during her first year.
In high school, Raine Bankston averaged 19 points and five assists per game as a senior and earned All-State honors. She was ranked as the 18
th best player in the state of Michigan. The twins combined to score 75 points in a high school game.
Reid Geckeler commented on the addition of the twins saying, "The addition of Raven and Raine to the roster will add more depth and experience to our perimeter play. They have a true passion for the game and have the ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor. They will be a huge part of our growth as we continue to build. I am excited to have them join the Tiger family."
