TOWSON, Md. – A trio of student-athletes have been named captains of the Towson women's soccer team for the 2015 season, ninth-year head coach Greg Paynter announced Thursday. Paynter tabbed Nicole Nicholas, Hollie Garber and Emily Marshall as captains for the program's 24^th season.
 
"We lost Sofia Read and Katie Ponce, who were two-year captains to graduation," said Paynter of his out-going class. "They were great role models for these three to learn from on how to help us be consistent and hold themselves and the team to a high standard. After the long selection process, this group will keep everyone on the same page and focused on our goals."
 
A staple along the Tigers' backline, Nicholas has logged time in 56 career games, including 50 starts. The co-captain helped the squad blank opponents on eight occasions last season, tied for the second-most in a single season. The Arlington, Virginia native took a career-best seven shots in 2014 as the Tigers earned their first-ever berth in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Tournament.
 
Another player with a great deal of experience, Garber has seen time in 48 matches in her previous three seasons. Hailing from Gilbertsville, Pennsylvania, Garber has tucked away three goals and added an assist to her stat line for seven career points. She has taken 21 shots in her career while earning CAA All-Academic Honors last season.
 
A midfielder from Adamstown, Maryland, Marshall is the lone junior captain for the 2015 season. Logging minutes in 33 games including 13 starts, Marshall tallied a pair of assists last season as Towson went 1-0-1 when she notched a point. Marshall logged nine shots during her sophomore campaign.
 
The 2015 edition of the Tigers kick off the year on Aug. 21 at Bucknell University's Emmitt Field at Holmes Stadium. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at the Lewisburg, Pennsylvania facility.
