SCOUTING THE SEAHAWKS: UNCW has lost four straight, following a 70-53 setback at Elon on Tuesday night. The Seahawks are led by
Shatia Cole who is averaging 11.9 points per game.
Naqaiyyah Teague is contributing 9.9 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.
Jordan Henry leads the Seahawks on the boards while pulling down 8.2 rebounds per game.
SERIES HISTORY: Towson begins its second go around with its Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) foes as it visits UNCW Friday. Friday's game will be the 28th meeting all-time between the Tigers and Seahawks. UNCW leads the all-time series 18-9 and has won five straight following a 52-49 victory when the two squads met in early January.
The Tigers will be looking for their first victory since the 2012-13 season tonight.
DAIJHA DOMINATES: Sophomore center
Daijha Thomas dominated play on the glass Sunday at Hofstra. Thomas recorded a career-high 17 rebounds against the Pride, including seven of her 10 boards in the first quarter. The 17 rebounds are tied for third most by a CAA player this season and are the most rebounds by a Tiger since
LaTorri Hines-Allen had 18 against UMBC last fall. Thomas now has five double digit rebounding performances this season.
I'LL TAKE THAT: The Tigers have used their quick hands to their advantage this season. Towson recorded 10 steals to Hofstra's five on Sunday. Five Tigers recorded at least one steal in the game. That group was led by junior guard
Raven Bankston and freshman forward
Brittany Tarr who had three steals each. Tarr's three swipes were the first of her career. Towson has now recorded more steals than its opponents in 13 of its 18 games. The Tigers enter play this weekend ranked second in the CAA while averaging 8.8 steals per game. Bankston ranks second in the CAA individual stats for steals per game, averaging 2.5 steals per game. Bankston is one of six Tigers to record 10 or more steals this season.
BLOCK PARTY: The Tigers recored four blocks in Sunday's contest at Hofstra. Sophomores
Daijha Thomas,
Breonn Hughey,
Shanea Butler and freshman
Brittany Tarr each recorded a block in the game. It was the second most blocks in a game this season by the team and the most since the Tigers recorded five blocks at Cornell in December.
The Tigers now have 39 blocks on the season. Thomas leads the team with 16 blocks.
WE'LL TAKE THE CHARITY: The Tigers have shot the ball well from the foul line since CAA play began. In seven CAA contests, the Tigers are shooting 70.8% (80-of-113).
During CAA play, junior guard
Raven Bankston is 29-for-34 (85.3%) from the charity stripe which ranks fourth in CAA-only games. The Tigers' success at the line in CAA play has raised their season average at the foul line to 68.1% (216-of-317). Senior guard
Dominique Johnson is 42-of-48 (87.5%) from the charity stripe this season. She leads the CAA in that category. Bankston is 73-of-89 (82.0%) from the foul line this year. She ranks fourth in the CAA.
GOING DEEP: The Tigers drained seven three-pointers on Sunday at Hofstra. Junior guard
Raven Bankston (3) and senior guard
Dominique Johnson (2) each hit multiple threes. It was the most three-pointers by the Tigers in a game since they had 12 at Minnesota in December. Towson now has nine games in which it's hit five or more three-pointers and three games with 11 or more three-pointers.
