Tigers Host Georgetown For STEM Day Wednesday at Noon

Noon Hoops: The Towson women's basketball team welcomes Georgetown to SECU Arena on Wednesday, Nov. 30. Tip time is set for noon as part of the Tigers' annual STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) day. The Tigers and Hoyas will be joined by over 1,000 local school children. The kids will have a chance to take part in STEM activity stations on the concourse prior to the start of the game. Links to live stats and the video feed can be found on the schedule page of TowsonTigers.com. Towson Sports Network's Ben Rosenbaum and Ian Jett will have the call of the game starting at 11:45 a.m. Fans can also follow the Tigers on Twitter (@Towson_WBB) for in-game updates.

Series History: The Tigers play their third of five straight games against teams from the DMV (District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia) area Wednesday. It will be the ninth meeting all-time between the Tigers and Georgetown. The Hoyas hold a 5-3 lead in the series and have won two straight following an 82-46 victory at Georgetown last year. In that contest, Dominique Johnson led the Tigers with 16 points while Dorothy Adomako had 19 for the Hoyas.

Strong Starts: Towson improved to 5-0 with the win over George Mason on Sunday. It is the best start to a season since the 2008-09 team started the year with five straight victories. It is also the fifth time in program history that a Tiger squad has started the year with at least five straight victories (1977-78, 1979-80, 2006-07, 2008-09 and 2016-17). The best start in school history belongs to the 1979-80 squad, who opened the year with nine straight victories.

I'm Honored: Towson redshirt junior forward Jordyn Smith was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Co-Player of the Week on Monday. Smith, who was honored for the first time in her career, averaged 15.5 points, 8.0 rebounds in a pair of Tiger victories. She shot 86.7 percent (13-of-15) from the field and added six steals, five assists and a block. She had 13 points and seven rebounds in the win at UMBC and set her career-high with four steals. Smith turned in one of her strongest games as a Tiger with a career-high 18 points and a season-best nine rebounds in the win over George Mason. Smith is the second straight Tiger to earn player of the week honors.

I Know You: Towson head coach Niki Reid Geckeler has familiarity with Georgetown. Reid Geckeler was a key player for the Hoyas from played for the Hoyas between 1989-93. Entering last year she ranked 14th in career three-pointers made (87), third in three-point field goal percentage (.380), sixth in assists (378) and 19th in steals (161). As a senior, she helped Georgetown advance to the East Regional of the NCAA Tournament. Reid Geckeler also has familiarity with the Hoyas head coach. Reid Geckeler and Natasha Adair served together for four years under then Georgetown Head coach Pat Knapp. The pair also got to face each other during the 2013-14 season when Adair was the head coach at the College of Charleston. Reid Geckeler and the Tigers took two of the three meetings that season.

Reaching The Century Mark: Towson senior guard Raven Bankston scored 19 points in the win over George Mason. That raised her season total to 110 points in five games. Bankston is the first Tiger player since Shanae Baker-Brice in 2009-10 to score at least 100 points in the first five games of a season. Baker-Brice had 108 points that year in the first five games.

We'll Take The Charity: The Tigers went 20-for-28 (71.4%) from the foul line against George Mason. All six Tigers who went to the foul line in that game made at least two shots. Senior forward Brianna Bush led the way as she was a career-best 6-for-7 from the charity stripe. Towson has now shot better than 70 percent from the foul line in three of its first five games. The Tigers who are 72-for-104 from the line this season, rank third in the CAA for free throws made and fourth for percentage (69.2). Both sophomore guard Sianni Martin (88.9 - 16-for-18) and senior guard Raven Bankston (88.2 - 15-for-17) rank among the top five in the CAA for free throw percentage.

Up Next: Towson wraps up this home stand when it host Coppin State on Saturday, Dec. 3. Tip time for that game is 5:30 p.m. as it will follow the men's game against Old Dominion which starts at 2 p.m.
