Men's Swimming & Diving Defeats George Mason in Road Dual Meet

FAIRFAX, Va. – The Towson University men's swimming and diving program used nine first-place finishes on day two to earn a 177-174 victory over George Mason.
 
The Tigers recorded 19 top-three finishes on the final day of the dual meet. Over both days, Towson posted 10 event victories and 26 top-three performances.
 
How it Happened
  • Jake Casey placed third-place on the three-meter diving boards with 154.60 points.
  • Towson took the top two spots in the 200-yard freestyle. Brandon Ress won the event with a time of 1:41.95, followed by Will Dougherty in 1:42.96.
  • Jack Saunderson won the 100-yard butterfly, timing 49.39. Matt Kenney placed third in the event with a time of 53.34.
  • Ryan O'Leary won the 100-yard breaststroke in 57.75.
  • Nick Breschi timed 50.32 to win the 100-yard backstroke.
  • Ben Johnston finished third in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:06.16.
  • The 200-yard medley relay team of Breschi, O'Leary, Saunderson and Nick Essing combined for a time of 1:32.85 to win the event.
  • Ress and Dougherty impressed once again in the 500-yard freestyle. Ress won the event, his second of the day, in 4:35.30. Dougherty followed in second-place, timing 4:36.30.
  • Breschi won his second event of the day in the 200-yard backstroke, timing 1:50.43. Zach Bishop took third-place in the event with a time of 1:50.80.
  • Essing placed third in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 46.78.
  • O'Leary timed 2:05.59 in the 200-yard breaststroke to win his second event of the day. Stefan Keller followed in third-place (2:07.85).
  • Saunderson earned his second event victory of the day in the 200-yard butterfly, timing 1:47.90. Noah Pritchard was the runner-up with a time of 1:52.42.
  • The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Dougherty, Ress, Essing and Johnston rounded out the meet with a second-place finish (3:07.70).
 
Up Next
  • The Tigers will take a month off before returning to action at the Bucknell Invitational. The three-day meet begins Dec. 2 at Kinney Natatorium.
