Tigers Visit No. 4 Maryland on Tuesday Night

Tough Challenge Awaits: A tough challenge awaits the Towson University women's basketball team as the Tigers travel to No. 4 Maryland on Tuesday, Dec. 6. Opening tip in College Park, Maryland is set for 7 p.m.  Links to live stats and video can be found on the schedule page of TowsonTigers.com. Fans can also follow the Tigers on Twitter (@Towson_WBB) for updates.

Series History: The Tigers play their fifth straight games against a team from the DMV (District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia) area Tuesday. It will be the 21st meeting all-time between the Tigers and Terrapins but the first since the 2014-15 season. Maryland leads the series 15-5 and has won five straight following an 81-52 victory when the two squads met last. Brionna Jones led the Terps with 17 points and eigh rebounds in that contest while LaTorri Hines-Allen had 21 points for the Tigers. Towson last claimed a victory in the series during the 2009-10 season. That year the Tigers earned a 67-55 win in the Towson Center.

Comeback Cats: Trailing by 16, 47-31, with 5:23 to play in the third quarter on Saturday night, the Tigers staged an epic comeback for the win over Coppin State. The Tigers claimed their largest comeback win under head coach Niki Reid Geckeler. The Tigers' previous largest comeback under Reid Geckeler came last year against William & Mary. In that game Towson trailed by 15 with 6:20 to go in the second quarter and rallied to force overtime for the win. Saturday's comeback win was the Tigers'  largest comeback since they rallied for an overtime win over Northeastern on Feb. 23, 2013. In that game, Towson trailed by 26 with 10:37 to play but tied the game in regulation and earned the win in the extra session.

We'll Take The Charity: Towson's success from the foul line played a key role in the comeback against Coppin State. The Tigers went 20-for-28 (71.4%) from the charity stripe. That tied Towson's season-high for free throws made. Towson was 4-for-6 in the first half and went 16-for-22 in the third and fourth quarters combined. The Tigers were an impressive 11-for-14 in the fourth quarter, including 10-for-12 in the final four minutes to seal the win. Six Tigers made at least one shot from the foul line against Coppin State. That group was led by senior guard Raven Bankston who was 8-for-8 in the game. Bankston connected on six of those shots in the final four minutes.

Twenty-Twenty Vision: Towson sophomore guard Sianni Martin tied her career-high with 23 points in the win over Coppin State. Martin scored 15 of her 23 points in the second half to power the Tigers' comeback against the Eagles. She has now scored 20 or more points three times this season and four times in her career.

I'll Take That: One of the keys to sucess for the Tigers early on has been their ability to get steals. Towson has recorded double digit steals in six of its first seven games this season. The Tigers had 14 steals against the Eagles on Saturday. Towson had a season-high 17 steals against UMBC. The 17 swipes against the Retrievers were the most steals in a game since the 2010-11 squad had 17 against Richmond. The Tigers enter play this week ranked 13th in the nation in steals per game (13.1). Senior guard Raven Bankston is currently fifth in the nation for steals per game, while averaging 4.29 swipes.

Clearing The Glass: Towson turned in one of it's most dominating performances on the boards against Coppin State. The Tigers outrebounded the Eagles, 45-31 for a +11 rebounding margin. Nine Tigers grabbed at least two rebounds in the game. That group was led by junior forward Mary Cuevas who had eight. Senior guard Raven Bankston and redshirt junior forward Jordyn Smith each added seven rebounds. It was Towson's biggest rebounding margin since they outrebounded Drexel by 15 during the 2014-15 season.

Up Next: Towson has a quick turnaround following Tuesday's game. The Tigers travel to Colgate for a 7 p.m. game on Thursday, Dec. 8.
