SCOUTING THE PHOENIX: Elon is coming off a thrilling 66-64 double overtime win over Delaware on Sunday.
Shay Burnett scored the game-winning lay-up with one second left in the second extra session. The Phoenix have now won two straight and five of its last six contests. Burnett is averaging 13.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game.
Lauren Brown is averaging 9.8 points per game while
Essence Baucom has 74 assists and 30 steals.
SERIES HISTORY: The Tigers and Phoenix are meeting for the second time this season. When the two squads met in Towson in January, the Tigers claimed an 85-78 victory. In that game, senior guard
Dominique Johnson scored a game-high 23 points and broke the school record for career three-pointers while Jennifer Brown led Elon with 18 points. That win was Towson's first ever against Elon. The Phoenix had swept the two meetings during the 2014-15 season.
TARR STEPS UP: Freshman forward
Brittany Tarr has given the Tigers a spark over the last three games. In those contests, Tarr is averaging 6.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. She had a career-high 12 points scored against Delaware and followed it up by grabbing a career-high nine rebounds against Hofstra on Sunday.
WE'LL TAKE THAT: Towson continues to make use of its hands and rack up the steals. The Tigers had nine steals to Hofstra's six on Sunday. Five Tigers recorded at least one steal in the game. That group was led by junior guard
Raven Bankston, who had three and freshman forward
Brittany Tarr who registered two steals. Towson has 190 steals this season and ranks second in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) while averaging 8.6 steals per game. The Tigers need just 20 more steals to match their total from a year ago.
BLOCK PARTY: After being held without a block at UNCW on Jan. 29, the Tigers have now recorded four or more blocks in each of the last three games. Sophomores
Daijha Thomas and
Shanea Butler along with freshmen
Sianni Martin and
Brittany Tarr each recorded a block in that game. The Tigers now have 52 blocks on the season and Thomas leads the team with 18 of those.
MISS ASSIST: Senior guard
Dominique Johnson racked up seven assists for the Tigers on Sunday against Hofstra. It was the most assists by a Tiger so far this season. That gave Johnson 51 assists for the season and 312 assists for her career. She currently eighth in school history for assists in a career.
UP NEXT: Following Friday's contest, the Tigers will return home to host College of Charleston on Sunday, Feb. 14 at 2 p.m.
