Tigers Finish Second at Monmouth Invitational

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Towson University indoor track and field team wrapped up a busy weekend with a second place finish at the Monmouth Winter Collegiate Invitational. The Tigers amassed 91 points to finish second of 11 Division I teams in the event. The host Hawks won the event with 258 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED (The Track Events)
  • Freshman Jaina McLean turned in a strong performance in the 60 meter dash. McLean posted a time of 7.91, which was a personal best and ranked sixth on the all-time list. She finished eighth in the event.
  • Joining McLean as a top 10 finisher in the 60 meter dash was fellow freshman Rachel Laryea, whose time of 7.98 was good for 10th place.
  • Senior Wilhelmina Austin placed sixth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.22.
  • Freshman Shelby Bobbie claimed a top 10 finish in the 1-mile run. Bobbie placed fifth with a time of 5:19.42.
  • The Tigers had a strong showing in the 3,000 meter run where they had four runners in the top 10. Sophomore Colleen Cook finished second with a time of 10:41.66 while teammate freshman Hannah Walter was right behind her with a time of 10:57.73 for third place. Sophomore Emily Johnson took fifth with a time of 11:00.78 while freshman Megan Lindstrom was 10th with a time of 11:08.77.
  • Freshman Skyler Bacote placed 10th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.84.
  • Laryea added a 10th place finish in the 200-meter dash, posting a time of 26.78.
  • The 4,000 meter distance medley team of Erica Israel, Allyson Figalora, Bobbie and Abby Gauthier placed third. The group combined for a time of 12:43.89.

HOW IT HAPPENED (The Field Events)
  • The Tigers turned in several strong performances in the field events.
  • Austin captured the triple jump with a final distance of 38' 3.25" (11.66m).
  • In the pole vault, senior Maggie Rampolla and junior Courtney Rose were among three field athletes to post a distance of 11' 9.75" (3.60m). Rampolla took the first place points while Rose qualified for the ECAC Championship with her height reached and took the second place points.
  • Junior Brynn Warrington finished just behind her teammates in the pole vault with a height of 11'3.75" (3.45m) and finished in fourth place.
  • Senior Ashleigh Stallings placed fourth in the shot put with a distance of 40' 2.25" (12.25m).
  • Freshman Lauren Coleman took seventh in the weight throw with a mark of 48'10" (14.88m) while senior Jader Godsey was ninth with a toss of 47'2.50" (14.39m).

The Tigers are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 27 when they travel to Saturday Night Fasttrack Last Chance Invite in New York.
