Gymnastics Finishes Fourth At George Washington Quad Meet

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Towson women's gymnastics team recorded 195.275 points to finish fourth at the George Washington Quad Meet on Sunday afternoon. The host Colonials won the meet (196.600) while Maryland (196.025) followed in second and Rutgers in third-place (195.475).
 
Sophomore Tyra McKellar earned a pair of 9.900 scores (uneven bars, floor exercise) while freshman Mary Elle Arduino tied the program high on balance beam with a score of 9.925. She becomes just the third Tiger in program history to record a 9.925 and the first since Annukkka Almenoksa in 2008.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Tigers posted a team score of 48.425 on vault. Sophomore Tyra McKellar tied for eighth-place on vault with a season-high 9.775. Junior Bayleigh Fobes made her season-debut for the Tigers, tying for 12th-place with a score of 9.725.
  • Towson set a season-high team score of 48.825 on the uneven bars. McKellar tied for first-place for the event, tying her career-high of 9.900. Sophomore Noelle Harada earned a season-high 9.850 to tie for fifth-place. Fobes continued to impress in her season-debut, earning a score of 9.725 (T-12th).
  • Freshman Mary Elle Arduino had an impressive performance on the balance beam to lead the Tiger effort. She tied for first-place on the event with a career-high score of 9.925, tying the program high for the event. Junior Bridget Steffen tied her career-high of 9.800 to finished in 12th-place.
  • The Tigers recorded a season-high of 49.175 on the floor exercise. McKellar was the runner-up, matching her career-high of 9.900. Freshman Cortni Baker tied for third-place with a career-high 9.875. Sophomore Katie McGrady set a career-high (9.825, T-7th) while sophomore Lauren Cahalan tied her season-high of 9.800.
  • McKellar placed third in the all-around with a total of 39.300.
 
The Tigers will wrap up their regular season road schedule with a trip to Rutgers on Sunday, March 6. Towson will face off with the host Scarlet Knights, West Chester and Southern Connecticut at 2 p.m.
