TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's gymnastics program will welcome William & Mary to SECU Arena for its final home meet of the season on Sunday, March 13 at 4 p.m. The Tigers will honor their two seniors,
Lydia Thompson and
Vicki Vesecky, at the conclusion of the meet.
Fans who wear black and gold to the meet will receive a $5 ticket.
All Towson home meets will feature poster giveaways, T-shirt tosses and a post-meet autograph session with Towson gymnasts. Fans will have a chance to enjoy the Family Fun Zone which includes poster-making, Dress Like a Towson Gymnast, face painter, balloon artist and gymnast cutouts.
Towson is coming off a second-place finish at the Rutgers Quad Meet last weekend, falling to the host Scarlet Knights and earning wins over Southern Connecticut and West Chester. The Tigers had seven top-five finishes, led by
Mary Elle Arduino and
Tyra McKellar who both won event titles. Arduino won her third-straight balance beam title while McKellar won her third all-around title of the season.
Arduino has impressed in her freshman campaign on beam, tying for fourth among East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) gymnasts with a regional qualifying score (RQS) of 9.855. She recorded a 9.925 on the balance beam at George Washington two weeks ago, matching the program-high for the event.
McKellar is tied for fifth among EAGL gymnasts for the all-around with a RQS of 39.030. She holds a RQS of 9.860 on bars which is tied for second in the league.
This is the second time that the Tigers and Tribe will face off. Towson defeated William & Mary 194.550-192.975 on Feb. 26 at the Tigers' annual Pink Meet.
William & Mary earned a close 192.450-192.225 win over North Carolina last time out. The Tribe trailed entering the final rotation but earned three of the top four scores on floor to secure to win. Brittney Stover leads William & Mary with the top RQS in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) on all-around (38.770) and vault (9.785).
Towson begins postseason action on March 19 as the Tigers head to Pittsburgh for the 2016 EAGL Championships. The meet will take place at 2 p.m. at the Fitzgerald Field House.
