Late Rally Not Enough in Series Finale

NORFOLK, Va. – Towson pushed across five runs in the ninth inning, but it was not enough as the Tigers fell, 13-7, to Norfolk State in the series finale Sunday afternoon.

How it Happened
  • Towson (3-10) jumped out to an early lead as Clark Clatchey reached on an error and scored on a Colin Gimblet single to center field.
  • The Tigers took advantage of a pair of Spartan errors to double the lead in the fourth inning.  A.J. Gallo reached on an error and stole second.  Two batters later, Trey Martinez drove in Gallo with a single up the middle.
  • The Spartans (5-9) would take control of the game from that point as they scored a run in the fourth before pushing across two runs in the fifth and sixth.  They put the game away with eight runs in the seventh.
  • Towson did not go quietly in the ninth as they battled for five runs.  Richie Palacios started things with a one-out single and scored on Spencer Sutton's pinch-hit RBI double.
  • Brady Policelli followed with an RBI double.  After loading the bases, Billy Plante was hit by a pitch for the third run of the inning.
  • Another fielding error from NSU allowed the final two runs of the inning.
  • Kevin Ross (0-2) took the loss after giving up three runs on three hits over five innings.
  • Palacios, Policelli and Martinez each collected two hits.
