TOWSON, Md. – The Towson women's gymnastics team wraps up its road regular season schedule at Rutgers on Sunday, Feb. 6 at 2 p.m. The meet will also feature Southern Connecticut and West Chester and take place at the Livingston Recreation Center.
The Tigers are coming off a busy weekend that featured two quad meets. Towson finished third in its annual Pink Meet on Friday with 194.550 points and fourth at George Washington on Sunday with a season-best 195.525.
Towson recorded the 12th-best team total in program history at George Washington with a score of 195.525. The Tigers also picked up season-bests on the uneven bars (48.825) and floor exercise (49.175).
Freshman
Mary Elle Arduino earned East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Rookie of the Week honors after matching the program record on balance beam with a 9.925 score at George Washington. She is just the third Tiger and first since 2008 to record a 9.925 on the balance beam. Arduino shared the balance beam individual title on Sunday and won it outright on Friday with a then career-high 9.875.
Sophomore
Tyra McKellar recorded two 9.900 scores at George Washington, matching her career-highs on uneven bars and floor exercise. McKellar ranks second among EAGL gymnasts on uneven bars with a season-average of 9.775 and a regional qualifying score (RQS) of 9.860.
Rutgers was also in action on Sunday at George Washington, finishing third overall (195.275). The Scarlet Knight's team total was the fifth-best team mark in program history. In addition, the Scarlet Knights picked up season-bests on uneven bars and floor exercise. Rutgers was also in action on Friday, defeating North Carolina 193.550-191.225 in a dual meet.
Southern Connecticut is coming off a fifth-place finish at West Chester on Friday. The Owls recorded a team score of 188.700 in the five-team meet.
Nicole Pruchnik earned Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Gymnast of the Week honors while
Abigail Bensley was named the ECAC Coaches' Choice for their performances.
West Chester earned a third-place finish out of five teams on Friday with 193.475 points, a program-best. In addition to setting a team-total school record, the Golden Rams set event records on vault and uneven bars, along with matching the program record for floor exercise.
Towson returns home to host William & Mary on Sunday, March 13 at 4 p.m. in SECU Arena. The meet will serve as Senior Day with the Tigers honoring seniors
