Towson To Host Virginia In Mid-Week DH

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University softball concludes its homestand when it hosts the University of Virginia in a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at the Tiger Softball Complex. First pitch is at 2 p.m. The second game is scheduled to begin around 4 p.m.
 
LAST TIME OUT:  Towson dropped a 7-3 decision to Bowling Green Sunday afternoon. It was a loss that ended Towson's five-game winning streak. Holiday Cahill had two hits. The Tigers were limited to a season-low four hits. Brook Miko and Nicole Stockinger also had doubles for Towson.
 
STOP, THIEF: Shelby Stracher has been sensational behind the plate this season. She has thrown out all four runners who have tried to steal bases.
 
RUN SCORING BINGE: Towson recently had a three-game stretch in which it scored double digit runs in three straight games (Appalachian State, UMBC and Morgan State). That was the first time the Tigers did that since 2005. Towson scored 42 runs and had 48 hits during that stretch. Overall, in its last four games, Towson is averaging 11.2 runs per outing. Towson has scored 10 or more runs six times this season.
 
THE .400 CLUB: Towson's top hitters this season has been the triumvirate of Stracher (.500), Daria Edwards (.417) and Cahill (.400). They have combined for 62 of Towson's 153 hits (40 percent). Stracher leads the Tigers in hits (24) and RBI's (21). Edwards and Stracher are also tied for the team lead with four home runs. Cahill and Nicole Stockinger lead the Tigers with five doubles. As a team, Towson has a .349 batting average.
 
ABOUT VIRGINIA: The Cavaliers split a pair of games on the final day of the Seahawk Softball Showcase on Sunday. The Cavaliers (7-12) defeated Radford, 3-2, but fell to UNCW, 8-7, in 12 innings. Freshman Erika Osherow the complete game against Radford to earn the win and improve to 5-8 on the season. The Cavaliers are led at the plate by junior Katie Park with a .400 batting average, 24 RBI and five home runs. She leads the squad in all three categories. Iyana Hughes leads the team with 19 runs scored and has added three home runs while going 9-of-10 on steal attempts. Virginia is hitting .287 as a team with 21 home runs, 92 runs scored and 83 RBI on the season.
 
ALL-TIME AGAINST VIRGINIA: Towson is 7-13 all-time against the Cavaliers. The last time Towson and Virginia played each other was in the 2014 Kickin' Chicken Classic at Coastal Carolina. Towson claimed a 7-2 victory as Missy McCormick hit a grand slam.
 
ON DECK: Towson heads to California to play six games beginning Friday. The Tigers will compete in the Saint Mary's Tournament where it play five games in three games against Portland State, Manhattan and St. Mary's. The trip concludes with a visit to Pacific next Tuesday.
