Baseball Hits Way to 18-4 Victory

TOWSON, Md. – Five Towson relievers combined to allow just two hits over seven shutout innings, and the offense erupted for 18 runs in the Tigers 18-4 victory over Delaware State Wednesday afternoon at Schuerholz Park.

How It Happened
  • The Hornets (10-30) jumped out to an early lead as a wild pitch and an RBI single from Austin Bentley as part of a two-run first inning.
  • The Tigers (15-27) answered back in a big way in the home-half of the inning.  A single by A.J. Gallo and a walk to Brady Policelli set up runners at second and third.
  • Richie Palacios collected the first of three-straight RBI singles.  Following Palacios' single through the left side, Spencer Sutton hit an RBI single to left field and Billy Plante plated a run with a single to center.
  • Trey Martinez delivered the big blow with a three-run triple to right center.
  • DSU got two runs back with a two-out rally.
  • That would be all for the Hornets for the rest of the game as five Tiger relievers limited the DSU offense to just two hits the rest of the game.  The Hornets got a single in the fourth and fifth, but did not get a base hit over the final 4.2 innings.
  • Policelli helped to put some distance on the scoreboard with a two-run single in the third.  He would later hit an RBI triple in the fifth and a two-run homer in the seventh.  He finished the day 3-for-4 with a triple, home run, five RBIs and three runs scored.
  • Towson put together its second six-run inning of the game when they sent 11 hitters to the plate in the eighth.  Plante delivered his second RBI single of the game, and Tristan Howerton drew a bases loaded walk.
  • A.J. Gallo drove in two more runs with a single, and Richard Miller delivered a pinch-hit RBI double down the right field line.  Colin Dyer plated the final run with his second hit of the inning.
  • Gallo led the 17-hit attack by going 4-for-5 with two RBIS and four runs scored.
  • Dyer and Plante each added two hits, while Martinez drove in three runs.
  • Palacios stole his 30th base of the season, becoming the Towson single-season leader.  He also became the fifth freshman to record 60 hits in a season.
  • Freshman Noah Hartwell (1-0) earned his first collegiate victory by allowing just two hits and striking out two over three innings.
  • Austin Clark, Dean Stramara, Kyle Stricker and Matt Allen each tossed an inning without allowing a hit.
