Men's Golf

In Their Own Words: Spencer Alexander

Throughout the fall portion of its schedule, the Towson men's golf team will have different student-athletes blogging throughout the year. Here's the fourth entry from freshman Spencer Alexander, who competed in the Patriot Intercollegiate tournament this past week. Alexander finished with a career low 220 (+7) after shooting an even 71 in the third round. He finished the tournament tied for 24th overall.

In these first weeks, the main thing I have learned is balance. Balancing practice, classwork, and going out has been a struggle at times, but the team has made it much easier for me. I appreciate Jimmy Grem and Dylan Stein for showing me at the ropes and introducing me to new people. Also thank you to the rest of the team for bringing me into the Tiger family they have established and all of the rides.

I experienced my first tournament this weekend. In some ways it went as expected and in many ways unexpected. I learned that college tournaments can take a lifetime to finish, and you have to be mentally ready for slow play. The first two rounds did not go so well for me but coach Yaniger made sure I wasn't too hard on myself considering it was my first event.

I came back the next day and played well. Our team as a whole did not perform up to our standards, (excluding Dylan who is playing great) but we still finished fourth. So we know that if we play to our potential we can win it all, and I believe our coach and the team truly believes that. I am looking forward to the rest of the season and what we can accomplish.
