Calling all Youth Players: Friday night is Youth Basketball Night at SECU Arena. Any child 12 years old and younger wearing a youth basketball jersey can get a $5 ticket to the game.
Series History: The Tigers welcome the Tribe of William & Mary to SECU Arena. It will be the 30th meeting all-time between the Tigers and Tribe. William & Mary holds a 17-12 edge in the match-up between the two schools. The Tribe swept the regular season series last year but the Tigers got a big 71-65 win in the first round of the CAA Tournament. Guard
Raven Bankston averaged 18 points in three games against the Tribe while adding 11 steals.
Sharp Shooting Tigers: Towson made 24-of-57 field goals against the College of Charleston on Sunday. The Tigers posted a 42.1 field goal percentage for the game. It was the Tigers' best field goal percentage since they shot 42.9 percent at Maryland on Dec. 6. The Tigers have a 39.5 field goal percentage this season. They have shot 40 percent or better from the field in eight games this season.
Defense Stands Tall: The Tigers held College of Charleston to just eight points in the third quarter of Sunday's contest. It was the ninth time this season the Tigers have held an opponent to single-digits in a quarter. The best performance by the defense this season came in the third quarter against UMBC as the Tigers held the Retrieves to just five points during that 10 minute span.
Post Picks Up The Pace: The Tigers have seen an increase in point production from their post players since Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play began. During the five CAA games, the post players have accounted for 107 of the Tigers' 288 points. That's 37 percent of the Tigers' scoring. Junior forward
Mary Cuevas is leading the charge during that stretch with 30 points. During nonconference play, the post players recorded 224 of the Tigers' 763 points. That was 29 percent of the Tigers' scoring.
Getting Everyone Involved: The Tigers got a season-high 34 points from the bench in Sunday's win over College of Charleston. All five players who came off the bench scored at least two points in that game. Junior center
Daijha Thomas matched her season-high with 10 points while junior forward
Mary Cuevas and junior guard
Shanea Butler posted season-bests of nine and seven points, respectively. Bench contributions have been key for the Tigers this season. The Tigers are averaging 16.8 points per game from the bench this season and are 4-3 when their bench outscores the opponents' bench.
I'll Take That: Anyone involved in the Towson/William & Mary game will want to take extra care to protect the basketball. The game pits the top two teams in the league for steals against each other. The Tribe come into the game with 175 steals and averaging 11.7 per game. Towson enters the contest with 176 steals and collecting 11.0 per game. Eight William & Mary players have recorded double digit steals this season. That group is led by
Alexandra Masaquel who has 35. Six Towson players have reached double digit steals so far this season. Senior guard
Raven Bankston has a team-best 54 swipes this season.
Up Next: The Tigers hit the road for two games following Friday's action. Towson visits James Madison on Sunday and UNCW next Friday. The Tigers return to SECU Arena on Sunday, Jan. 29 to host Delaware at 2 p.m.
