MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Towson University gymnastics team travels to West Virginia University for its first quad meet of the season on Sunday, Jan. 29. The meet, which will also feature the University of Denver and Temple University, is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
Meet Coverage
The quad meet will take place inside the WVU Coliseum and feature live stats and a free video stream. Fans will be able to watch all four events for each rotation on the video stream.
Towson will face two top 25 programs at the meet, as Denver is ranked seventh nationally and West Virginia is ranked 25
th in the Road to Nationals Rankings. Towson is tied for the No. 42 spot, while Temple is ranked 54
th.
Strong Start to the Season
Towson recorded a season-best team score of 194.050 on Sunday in a dual meet with East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) rival George Washington. The Tigers also set season-best event scores on vault (48.375) and the uneven bars (48.500). Towson also had gymnasts set or match six career-bests and eight season-bests at the dual meet.
Ranking among the Best
Towson's season average of 193.675 is the fourth-best among EAGL teams and sixth-best in the South East Region. Towson ranks second among EAGL teams and fourth in the South East Region for floor exercise (48.792) and third among EAGL teams and fifth in the South East Region for balance beam (48.467).
Five Tigers are ranked in the top 10 among EAGL gymnasts.
Tyra McKellar ranks 10
th for the all-around with a season-average of 38.613, eighth for floor exercise (9.783) and tied for eighth for uneven bars (9.750).
Mary Elle Arduino is tied for seventh among EAGL gymnasts on the balance beam with her season-average of 9.792.
Gabriella Yarussi's season average of 9.783 on balance beam is tied for ninth in EAGL.
Cortni Baker and
Bayleigh Fobes are both tied for 10
th among EAGL gymnasts for floor exercise with matching season averages of 9.767.
I'm Honored
Junior
Gabriella Yarussi was named NewDay USA Female Student-Athlete of the Week on Jan. 10 for her performance in the Tigers' home opener. She matched her career-high with a 9.900 on balance beam to win the event title.
Yarussi is one of 11 gymnasts in program history to score a 9.900 or higher on balance beam. She also competed on vault for the first time since returning from injury and finished seventh overall.

Towson travels to the University of North Carolina for a quad meet on Friday, Feb. 3. That meet, which will begin at 7 p.m., will also feature William & Mary and Wisconsin-Whitewater.
