Men's Basketball by Caprice Roche, Sports Information Student Intern

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Brian Starr

Each Monday during the month of October, we'll highlight one senior in preparation for the 2017-18 season.

TOWSON, Md. – Last season, Brian Starr shined for the Towson University men's basketball team. He played in every game and started the final 22 contests. For the season, he averaged 6.0 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. During the Tigers Canadian trip this past summer, Starr averaged 11 points per game as Towson won four games against quality competition.

Who influenced you to begin playing basketball?  What age did you begin?
I began playing basketball when I was four years old.  My mother inspired me to play, she always kept me active outside of school.

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Snapchat?
I'm big on Twitter. It keeps me going.

What's the most challenging aspect of being a student-athlete?
Trying to get sleep. There's not enough time in the day to get sleep.

What's your favorite food?
I like fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, and mashed potatoes.  That's my go-to meal.

What's one word to describe head coach Pat Skerry?
Intense.

What makes you the most excited, day in and day out, about being a Towson student-athlete?
Just hanging out with guys.  I'm close with my teammates. I feel closer this year than last year.

If you could play another sport for one day, which one would it be?
Definitely football. I love football.

Describe the one thing this summer you did that has helped you become a better player?
I think this year, I put more emphasis on taking care of my body.  I focused on my diet, working out, stretching, and taking care of my body all around.

If you could change one thing about basketball, what would that be and why?
I hate the charge rule.  I think it bails out a lot of bad defenders.

What is your personal goal for the 2017-18 season?
First and foremost, I want to win our conference.  Secondly, I want to average double digits in points and assists.  And another team one, I want all our seniors to be able to play professionally.

What's your dream job?
Something that involves the youth in my community.  I love working with kids.

What community service have you done with the team?
The first community service activity we did was the coolest.  We woke up at 6 a.m. and we helped the church carry in food and set up.  At first I was mad that they woke us up at 6 a.m., but when I knew what the cause was and how we were helping, I was down for it.

Does your uniform number mean anything to you?
22 was my number growing up, and I eventually switched it to 2, but since I'm turning 22 this year, it's my B-Starr year.

What was the last movie you saw?
I watched the Wolf on Wall Street but I didn't make it all the way through it. I fell asleep.

Do you have any game superstitions?
I always pray during the national anthem.

What artists get you hyped before games?
So many.  Like today, I like Lil Uzi and Drake.

Who is the first person you are calling or texting after your game?
My mother.  Since she doesn't live close to Towson she can't make it to all my games but she watches them so I usually reach out.

List any hobbies you have outside of basketball.
I like watching movies eating.

Towson opens its 2017-18 season on Friday, Nov. 10 at Old Dominion. IN addition, the Tigers also compete in the Belfast Classic in Northern Ireland on Friday, Dec. 1 and Saturday, Dec. 2. There's still time to book a travel package. CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION
