BOX SCORE WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Despite a goal from redshirt sophomore
Sam Lotti, the Towson University women's soccer team fell 3-1 on the road Sunday afternoon at William & Mary. It was the final game of the 2017 regular season for the Tigers.
Towson (5-11-2, 2-6-1 CAA) nearly got another double-digit save effort from redshirt senior goalie
Taylor Sebolao. She made 27 saves in the final two games of her Black & Gold career, coupled with 18 stops Thursday night at Northeastern.
How it Happened
- William & Mary came out early with pressure, putting a shot on goal in the first 30 seconds of the match, getting Sebolao's afternoon started quickly.
- Five shots in the first 17 minutes of the match from William & Mary led to the Tribe taking a 1-0 lead. Rachel Moore scored in the 17th minute on a feed from Erin Dailey.
- Ten minutes later, the Tribe doubled their lead to 2-0 on a marker from Elysse Branton. Sarah Segan had the assist.
- The Tigers got two shots off in the first half, one from senior co-captain Maddie Bové and a head chance late in the period from Xavia Lemott.
- William & Mary came out of the break with more pressure, taking a 3-0 lead in the 48th minute. Segan scored her eighth goal of the year.
- Towson cut the lead to two as Lotti drilled the second goal of her career in the 75th minute. Sophomore Grace Mondloch sailed in a cross from just inside midfield, hitting Lotti in stride as the latter headed home the goal.
Behind the Numbers
- William & Mary out-shot the Tigers 19-10 during the match, putting 13 of those chances on goal. Sebolao capped her career with a 10-save game, her second double digit save effort of the week.
- Redshirt junior keeper Emma Burnett made her first appearance of the 2017 season in the 88th minute. She was not called upon to make a save.
- Tribe backup keeper Samantha Johnson made four saves in the second half. Starting keeper Grace Smith did not make a save.
