Towson holds a 28-13 advantage in the match-up and has won back-to-back games, including a 63-50 win during that last meeting.
Dominique Johnson led the Tigers with 18 points, four assists and four steals while
Lisa Mirarchi had 17 points and five rebounds for Loyola.
We'll Take the Charity: Towson took advantage of its opportunities at the foul line against Saint Joseph's. The Tigers were 23-for-26 (88.5%) from the charity stripe against the Hawks, including an impressive 15-for-15 showing in the fourth quarter. Redshirt senior guard
Raine Bankston led Towson's efforts in that game as she was 11-for-12. The Tigers have now made 20 or more free throws in a game twice this season. Towson enters play this weekend leading the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) with a free throw percentage of 74%. Sophomore forward
Nukiya Mayo leads the team with 28 made free throws while Bankston and senior forward
Mary Cuevas have both made 20 or more free throws through the first seven games. All three players rank among the top 10 in the CAA for free throw percentage this season.
90 and Feeling Fine: The Tigers posted 90 points in Tuesday's win over Saint Joseph's. It was Towson's second game this season with 90 or more points scored (95 against UMBC).
It marked the first time since the 1985-86 season that the Tigers have scored 90 or more points in two games in the same season. Towson is a perfect 19-0 all-time when it scores 90 or more points in a game.
Twenty-Twenty Vision: Redshirt senior guard
Raine Bankston paced the Tigers with a career-high 27 points in the win over Saint Joseph's. Bankston nailed eight field goals and went 11-for-12 from the foul line. It marked the second straight night, the Tigers had a player record the first 20+ point performance of their career. Senior forward
Mary Cuevas finished with a career-best 23 points in the win over Wagner. Towson has now gotten four 20+ point performances this season. Sophomore forward
Nukiya Mayo (22) and junior guard
Danielle Durjan (21) each reached the mark against UMBC.
Seeing Double: Towson sophomore forward
Nukiya Mayo recorded her first career double-double in the win over Saint Joseph's. Mayo posted 13 points and a career-high 11 rebounds against the Hawks. It was the second straight game, both Towson wins, that a Tiger recorded their first double-double for the Black and Gold (
Mary Cuevas-23 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Wagner).
Taking Advantage of the Turnovers: Towson forced Saint Joseph's into 13 turnovers on Tuesday night and scored 18 points off those turnovers. After being held to single-digits in the points off turnovers category in the first three games, the Tigers have reversed that trend in the last four games. Towson has scored in double-digits in the points off turnovers category in each of its last four games. The Tigers have also outscored their opponents in that category in three of the last four contests. The Tigers scored a season-best 30 points off turnovers in the win over Wagner and comes into the weekend averaging 16.9 points off turnovers. Â
Welcome to the Block Party: One of the keys to success for the Tigers this season has been their ability to block a shot. Towson recorded a season-high 12 blocks in the win over Saint Joseph's, one shy of the school record for a single-game. Senior forward
Mary Cuevas led the efforts with a career-best six blocks while sophomore forward
Nukiya Mayo had a career-high four rejections. Towson enters play this weekend with 47 blocks and ranked second in the CAA while averaging 6.7 blocks per game. Cuevas has 20 blocks in seven games this season. Last year, Cuevas didn't record her 20th block of the season until the team's 21st game. She finished with a team-high 26 blocks last year.
Up Next: Towson continues its road trip when it heads to Norfolk State for a 6 p.m. game on Tuesday, Dec. 12.
