Tigers Host Drexel on Friday Night

Kicking Off a Home Weekend: The Towson University women's basketball team kicks off a home weekend with a contest against Drexel on Friday, Feb. 17. Opening tip between the Tigers and Dragons is set for 7 p.m. from SECU Arena. Towson Sports Network's Ben Rosenbaum and Caleb Studivant will have the call of the game starting at 6:45 p.m. Links to live stats and the video feed can be found on the schedule page of TowsonTigers.com. Fans can also follow the Tigers on Twitter (@Towson_WBB) for updates.

Welcome Youth and Student Groups: Friday night's contest will be a Youth Basketball Night and any fans 12 years old and younger wearing a youth basketball jersey can purchase a $5 ticket. It will also be the Tigers' Student Appreciation Night with the SGA and student groups and organizations can win prizes.

Series History: The Tigers resume one of their longest running rivalries as they welcome Drexel to SECU Arena. It will be the 73rd meeting all-time between the Tigers and Dragons. After capturing a 58-48 win when the two teams met in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) opener in January, the Dragons lead the series 53-19. The Dragons have won 16 straight contests against the Tigers. Towson will be looking for its first win in the series since the 2009-10 season when the Tigers earned a 53-48 victory at home.

The Big 9-0-0: Towson senior guard Raven Bankston enters play Friday with a chance to reach a scoring milestone. Bankston, who has already scored the 1,000th point of her career, enters the weekend with 878 points in 54 games as a Tiger. Bankston needs 22 more points to become the 25th player in program history with 900 or more career points. She would also become the first Tiger since Dominique Johnson to score 900 or more career points as a Tiger.

Welcome To the Block Party: Junior center Daijha Thomas led the Tigers with two blocked shots at William & Mary. That raised Thomas' season total to 16 blocks and her career total to 54 blocked shots. She moved into a tie for 13th place in program history for career blocked shots. Thomas is the first Tiger since Nyree Williams (2010-14) to move into the top 15. Thomas needs seven more blocks to move into the top 10 for career blocks at Towson.

Pound the Ball Inside: The Tigers continue to find ways to pound the ball inside. Towson scored 28 points in the paint against William & Mary on Sunday. It was the 18th time this season the Tigers have won the battle of the points in the paint. Last Friday, the Tigers scored 22 points in the paint while holding UNCW to just six points in the paint. It was also the third time this season the Tigers have held an opponent to single digits in the points in the paint category.

Seeing Double: Towson had a trio of players score in double figures in Sunday's contest. The Tigers are 8-3 this season when they have three or more players score in double figures in the same game. Junior forward Mary Cuevas led the team with 12 points while senior guard Raven Bankston added 11 points. Sophomore guard Sianni Martin posted 10 points against the Tribe. Bankston has now scored in double figures in 14 straight games and 23 of 24 contests this season. Martin has scored in double figures in four straight games, and in 19 games this season. Cuevas has now reached double figures in two games this season.

International Tigers: Towson alumna Dominique Johnson recently signed a professional contract to play in Romania. Johnson, who graduated last spring, set the school record for career (221) and single-game (nine) three-pointers during her Towson career. Johnson gives the Tigers two alums who are currently playing overseas professionally (Tanisha McTiller-Finland).

Up Next: The Tigers remain home to host Northeastern on Sunday, Feb. 19 at 2 p.m.
