TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University softball team returns to South Carolina this weekend to play four games over two days at two different locations. The Tigers will compete in the USC-Upstate/Furman Classic.
Towson will play Colgate and Georgetown on Saturday at USC-Upstate in Spartanburg. The Tigers will conclude the tournament by meeting Campbell and Furman in Greenville Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers (2-3 overall) opened last weekend at Coastal Carolina's Kickin' Chicken Classic. Towson beat Youngstown State twice in extra innings and dropped close games to seventh-ranked Alabama and host Coastal Carolina. Overall, the Tigers were strong and made a good first impression to begin the season.
Senior
Holiday Cahill was named Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Week after leading Towson with a .467 average, two home runs and six RBIs. Cahill, who had a .933 slugging percentage last weekend, has 30 career homers. Cahill also enjoyed three multi-hit games last weekend.
Sophomore
Nicole Stockinger hit .400 over the five games. Junior
Brook Miko had a triple and a home run last weekend and junior
Daria Edwards also had four RBIs. She led the Tigers with two doubles. Freshman pitcher
Julia Smith-Harrington was the winning pitcher in both of Towson's victories. She had a 4.50 earned run average and 12 strikeouts in 18 innings.
"I think we played great until the last out," head coach
Lisa Costello said. "We didn't quit and we showed that on Sunday after being down a bunch and coming back to win. Even against Alabama, we were convinced we were going to win. I thought overall, we showed a lot of mental toughness. I am looking forward to seeing us continuing to build off of what we started last week."

A Look At Georgetown
Freshman right fielder
Sera Stevens was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after a big weekend for Georgetown at the Felsburg Invitational hosted by Florida Invitational. Stevens lead the Hoyas with a .385 batting average, five RBI and two home runs. Georgetown dropped all five games in the tournament. Mallory Belkamp led the Hoyas with seven hits. Towson defeated Georgetown three times last season.
A Look At Colgate
Colgate begins its season this weekend. Colgate returns 10 letterwinners from last season's campaign. Those 10 letterwinners include eight positional starters and a pair of returning pitchers. Senior
Katie Bushee earned a spot on the Preseason All-Patriot League Team She was a second team All-Patriot League selection a season ago after leading the Raiders with a .301 batting average. The outfielder also contributed team-best marks of 22 runs, 17 RBI, 17 stolen bases, 40 hits, 11 doubles, and two triples. Members of the Patriot League, the Raiders were predicted to finish fifth in the seven-team conference in the preseason poll.
A Look At Furman
Caroline Cash led Furman last week during the Unconquered Invitational in Tallahassee, Fla. With a .353 average and six hits. Cash had three doubles. Anna Rosa Borelli (four hits) and Lindsey Bert (three) also had a good weekends for Furman, who dropped all five games last weekend. Two of Furman's losses were to third-ranked Florida State. The Paladins are the preseason favorites in the Southern Conference. Furman returns seven of their eight position starters from last season, highlighted by preseason SoCon Player of the Year
Candace Johnson, and a tandem of preseason All-SoCon pitchers from a 2016 team that posted a 33-28 record.
A Look At Campbell
Campbell won three out of five games last week at its tournament. Campbell defeated St. Francis (Pa), Maryland Eastern Shore and North Carolina Central. Rachel McCollum led Campbell with a .467 batting average, three home runs and nine RBIs. Amber Schisler (.438) and Madison Herring (.429) also hit above .400 last weekend. Schisler had seven RBIs. Members of the Big South Conference, Campbell was picked third in the preseason poll and Schisler was named the 2017 Big South Preseason Player of the Year.

Towson returns to action next weekend when it competes in the Carolina Classic hosted by the University of North Carolina. The Tigers will meet Hampton and North Carolina on Friday, Feb. 24.
