TOWSON, Md. – After being shutout in the first game of the doubleheader, the Towson University baseball team came back to shut out Norfolk State 5-0 in the second game of the doubleheader Sunday afternoon. The Tigers fell 8-0 in the first game.
Game 1
- The Spartans got a strong starting performance from Devin Hemmerich as the left hander allowed just one hit in a complete-game shutout victory.
- NSU got all the offense they would need in the third as Terrence Pinkston and Justin Burrell delivered RBI base hits in the frame.
- A sacrifice fly in the fifth and an RBI double from Roger Hall in the seventh helped to extend the lead.
- The Tigers lone hit in the game came in the eighth inning on an Andrew Cassard single to left field.
- Kevin Ross (0-2) took the loss after giving up three runs on six hits over five innings.
Game 2
- The second game was another dominating pitching matchup, this time from Tiger starter Michael Adams.
- The junior right hander kept the Spartans off balance as he tossed six shutout innings. He allowed just four hits and struck out seven.
- Adams gave way to Kyle Stricker in the seventh and he continued what Adams started. Stricker did not allow and hit over three shutout innings.
- The Tigers got all the offense they would need in the first inning. A.J. Gallo blooped a double and Richie Palacios was hit by a pitch. Logan Burke then stepped in and lined a three-run home run over the fence in left field.
- Towson added to the lead in the third inning after Burke reached on an error and stole second. Richard Miller followed with a single through the right side to score Burke.
- Palacios helped manufacture the fifth run in the eighth inning as he doubled off the fence in right and stole third. Burke then drove him in with a groundout to third.
- Burke finished the day 1-for-4 with a home run, four RBIs and two runs scored.
- Palacios was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored, while Miller added two hits and an RBI.
- Jonathan Mauricio (0-1) took the loss after giving up four runs, three earned, on five hits over six innings.
- The shutout was the first for the Tigers since blanking Delaware, 7-0, on May 10, 2014.

The Tigers travel to Philadelphia next weekend for the Big Five Baseball Bash. Towson takes on La Salle on Friday at 3 p.m. The Tigers then face Villanova Saturday and 1 p.m. before closing out the weekend with a 1 p.m. first pitch against Saint Joseph's on Sunday.
