TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University softball team continues its 12-game road trip by visiting George Mason in a doubleheader at the GMU Softball Complex Wednesday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
LAST WEEK: Towson went 2-5 in road games at Virginia, Longwood and Delaware. The Tigers enter this week having dropped their season-opening Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) series against Delaware. Leading Towson's offense last week was
Shelby Stracher, who had a .364 batting average. She had eight hits and drove in six runs. Stracher had at least one hit in six games last week.
Daria Edwards and
Brook Miko had .333 batting averages. Edwards led Towson with nine hits.
Kendyl Scott contributed a .308 batting average, which included eight hits and a home run.
LAST TIME AGAINST GEORGE MASON: Towson and George Mason traded shutouts last season in splitting a doubleheader. The Tigers won the opening game, 8-0, behind two hits each from
Kaylen Minnatee,
Nicole Stockinger and
Shelby Stracher. The Patriots combined to throw a perfect game in winning the nightcap, 7-0. GMU pitcher Marina Vitalich struck out eight batters in four innings for George Mason. Overall, Towson is 45-30 all-time against George Mason.
THREE-HIT WONDERS: Towson had three separate games last week in which four players finished with at least three hits: Edwards (in both games of a doubleheader at Virginia), Scott (Virginia),
Dylan Jarvis (Virginia) and
Madison Wilson (Delaware).
SEVENTH HEAVEN: Towson has won 48 consecutive games when it has scored at least seven runs.
A LOOK AT GEORGE MASON: Members of the Atlantic-10 Conference, the Patriots won two out of three against La Salle this past weekend. In its last outing, George Mason rode the Vitalich's pitching to record a 4-0 victory over La Salle on Sunday. Vitalich has won five of George Mason's six games. Erin Caplan (.289) and Madison Aker (.283) are the Patriots' top hitters. Jess Middleton leads GMU with 18 hits. The top RBI producers for George Mason have been Jess Curbeira and Sydnee Wells. They have 10 each.
UP NEXT: Towson finishes its road trip with a key three-game set against Hofstra at Bill James Stadium in Hempstead, Long Island. The Tigers will play a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. on Saturday and conclude the series with a 12 p.m. single game on Sunday. The Tigers won two out of three from the Pride last season.
