Tigers Can’t Overcome Big Inning

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Towson University baseball team could not over overcome an early six-run inning in falling, 16-3, Friday evening in the CAA series opener at College of Charleston.

How it Happened
  • The Cougars (18-20, 8-5 CAA) pushed across a run in the second inning before taking advantage of a pair of walks and two hit batters to help push across six runs in the fourth inning.  Logan McRae capped the inning with a two-run single to left field.
  • The Tigers (15-21, 3-7 CAA) answered back with three runs in the fifth inning as Andrew Cassard drew a two-out walk and went to third on a Trey Martinez double down the left field line.
  • Mark Grunberg would drive in both runners with a single down the left field line before scoring from first on a Richie Palacios double into the right-field corner.
  • A solo home run from Ari Sechopoulos and a two-run blast from Evan Roper were part of a five-run seventh inning to help put the game out of reach.
  • Dean Stramara (2-4) suffered the loss after allowing seven runs on seven hits over 3.1 innings.
  • Bailey Ober (4-1) picked up the victory after allowing three runs on four hits over five innings.
  • Both Palacios and Martinez collected a pair of hits, including a double.
