TOWSON, Md. – The Towson offense delivered four home runs, including an inside the park home run, but it was not enough to prevail in a 27-14 slugfest to Cornell Wednesday afternoon at Schuerholz Park.
How It Happened
- The Big Red scored the first seven runs of the game, including their first of two six run innings in the second.
- The Tigers got on the board in the bottom of the second as A.J. Gallo delivered a two-run home run to right field with two outs.
- Towson collected five hits in a five-run third inning. Colin Gimblet and Richard Miller hit back-to-back two run doubles, and Colin Dyer added an RBI single in the frame.
- Dyer was back at it again in the fifth as he hit a three-run opposite field home run off the right field foul pole.
- Richie Palacios hit his second home run of the season when led off the sixth inning with a no doubt shot off the tree in right field.
- The Tigers fourth home run of the game was an exciting one as Andrew Cassard hit a line drive into the gap in right center that got all the way to the fence near the 424 sign. Cassard hustled all the way around for the three-run inside-the-park home run. It was the first home run of his career.
- Cornell would score at least one run in eight of the nine innings, including three innings with at least five runs.
- Nine different Tigers collected hits in the 13-hit attack.
- Dyer finished the day 2-for-4 with four RBIs, while Palacios added two hits and scored two runs.
- Billy Lennox went 2-for-2 with a walk and three runs scored. He also made his collegiate debut on the mound, giving up two hits and striking out a batter in two-thirds of an inning.
