TOWSON, Md. – The 2016-17 school year provided Towson Tiger fans with plenty of exciting moments on the court, on the field, the course and in the pool. Moment eight takes fans to the Tiger Softball Complex for a home run battle.
Fans who made their way back to the Tiger Softball Complex this spring were treated to a display of power as
Holiday Cahill and
Shelby Stracher had a knack for hitting the long ball in a chase for history.
On April 11 in the first game of a doubleheader against Norfolk State, Cahill etched her name in the record books as she blasted a ball over a centerfield fence for her fourth home run of the season and 32nd of her career. That broke
Aimee Rosa's (2005-08) school record.

On May 5, another name was added to the record books as Stracher and Cahill took turns hitting balls out of the park. Stracher got things started against the Cougars with a shot to left center field, the 33rd long ball of her career tied her with Cahill for the career home run record at Towson. Cahill had the answer though as her two run shot to left field in the fourth inning gave her 34 home runs as a Tiger. Stracher provided the answering shot in the same inning as she put her second ball of the day and 34th of her career over the fence in right field.

The pair ended the season tied atop the Towson career home run list with 34 long balls each. Cahill, who holds the school record for home runs in a single-game with three, ends her career with 34 home runs. Stracher, who set the school record for single-season home runs with 15 in 2016, will return to the diamond for the Tigers in 2018 looking to pass Cahill and hold the career home runs mark outright.
