Kuilan To Take Part in FIVB World Grand Prix

TOWSON, Md. – Towson University volleyball rising junior Jocelyn Kuilan has been selected for the Puerto Rico National Team that will take part in the FIVB World Grand Prix this summer.

The World Grand Prix is the 25th annual women's volleyball international tournament and will take place from July 7 to August 6. Puerto Rico is part of Group 2 which features teams from Argentina, Bulgaria, Canada, Colombia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Kazakhstan, Peru, Poland, South Korea and the Puerto Ricans.

Kuilan and Puerto Rico will start the tournament by competing in a pool in Peru. They will take on Peru on July 7, the Czech Republic on July 8 and Colombia on July 9.

Week 2 of pool play will see Kuilan and Puerto Rico return to their home country to host a pool play weekend. There they will take on Canada on July 16, the Czech Republic on July 17 and Bulgaria on July 18.

The final week of pool play will see Kuilan and the Puerto Ricans head to Croatia. That rotation will see them face Bulgaria on July 21, Argentina on July 22 and Croatia on July 23.

The top four seeds from the group will then advance to the semifinals which will be played in the Czech Republic on July 29 with the final match on July 30.

Kuilan is coming off a solid sophomore season that saw her earn First Team All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) accolades. She earned all-conference honors for the second straight season after taking home second team accolades in 2016. She was named to the all-tournament teams at the Seton Hall, Georgetown and Mercer Tournaments. She finished second on the team with 372 kills while leading the team with 43 service aces. Kuilan ranked among the CAA leaders in hitting percentage (.295-7th), kills per set (3.07-6th), service aces per set (0.36-2nd) and points per set (3.59-5th). She recorded a season-high 20 kills twice (College of Charleston and at James Madison) and recorded double-digit kills 23 times. Kuilan tied her career-high with five service aces in the win at Elon and has 11 matches with two or more service aces. She has recorded 166 digs and had a career-high 14 digs against VCU. Kuilan recorded the first four double-doubles of her career this season. She has also contributed 38 blocks and 19 assists this season.
