TOWSON, Md. – Three former Towson University football players will be suiting up for their respective teams when the National Football League opens its season this weekend.
Offensive lineman Jermon Bushrod (Miami Dolphins), defensive back Tye Smith (Tennessee Titans) and running back Terrance West (Baltimore Ravens) are all on active 53-man rosters for the opening weekend.
Bushrod is in his third season with the Dolphins and 11
th overall in the NFL. He was originally drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the fourth round of the 2007 NFL Draft. He played six years with the Saints, including starting at left tackle in their Super Bowl XLIV championship. He also spent three years with the Chicago Bears.
Smith enters his first season with the Tennessee Titans after signing with the team last offseason. Smith was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He played four games for the Seahawks during the 2015 season before spending 2016 as a member of the Washington Redskins practice squad.
West enters his third season with the Baltimore Ravens after spending time with the Cleveland Browns and Tennessee Titans. West was selected in the third round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Browns. He appeared in 14 games during his rookie season before being traded to the Titans in 2015. He made two appearances with the Titans before signing with the Ravens in November.
He is coming off a career year in his first season as a starter, rushing for 774 yards and five touchdowns on 193 carries.
