Tigers Set to Host UNCW on Friday Night

A Brief Stop at Home: In the midst of a stretch that will see the Towson University women's basketball team play five of six games on the road, the Tigers get a chance to play inside SECU Arena on Friday, Jan. 12. Towson welcomes UNCW to town for a 7 p.m. tip in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) action. Links to live stats and the video feed can be found on the schedule page of TowsonTigers.com. Towson Sports Network's Ben Rosenbaum and Ian Jett will be on the air to call the game starting at 6:45 p.m. Fans can also follow the Tigers on Twitter (@Towson_WBB) for updates.

Series History: Towson gets its first look at UNCW this season as the Seahawks visit SECU Arena. UNCW holds a 21-9 advantage in the series and has won eight straight against the Tigers after sweeping last season's two games. Towson will be looking for its first win in the series since the 2012-13 campaign when it took two from the Seahawks.

Seeing Double: Towson senior forward Mary Cuevas led the team with 23 points and 14 rebounds in the win at William & Mary on Sunday. It was Cuevas' sixth double-double of the season. She has the most double-doubles by a Tiger since LaTorri Hines-Allen had 14 during the 2014-15 campaign. Towson has now seen 10 double-double performances this season (Cuevas-six, Nukiya Mayo-four).

Welcome to the Block Party: The Tigers posted 11 blocks in Sunday's win at William & Mary. It was the second time this season the Tigers have posted double-digit blocks in a game (12-Saint Joseph's). Four Tigers recorded at least one block in the game. That group was led by senior forward Mary Cuevas, who had a career-high six and redshirt junior center Maia Lee who added three rejections. Towson enters play this weekend with 92 blocks on the season. It is the Tigers' most blocks in a season since the 2014-15 team had 110 blocks in 32 games. The Tigers are averaging 6.1 blocks per game which ranks second in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) and 11th nationally. Cuevas paces the Tigers on the season with 32 blocks. She ranks 13th in single-season history for blocks at Towson and needs eight more blocks to move into the top 10 for a single-season at Towson. Cuevas in one of three Tigers to record 10 or more blocks this season (Cuevas-32, Nukiya Mayo-21, Daijha Thomas-13).

We'll Take the Charity: Towson turned in another solid performance from the charity stripe. The Tigers went 18-for-22 (81.8 percent) from the foul line against William & Mary. Senior forward Mary Cuevas was seven-for-eight from the charity stripe while redshirt senior guard Raine Bankston made five-of-six chances. It was the sixth time this season the Tigers have made at least 10 shots from the charity stripe and shot 80 percent or better. Towson ranks second in the CAA for free throw percentage at 71.7 percent. Sophomore forward Nukiya Mayo leads the Tigers and ranks eighth in the CAA with a 73.4 free throw percentage (47-for-64).

Miss Assist: Towson redshirt senior guard Raine Bankston led the Tigers with four assists at William & Mary. That gives the Detriot, Michigan native 33 assists this season. That raised Bankston's career assists total as a Tiger to 185 assists in 74 games. She enters play this weekend ranked 24th in Towson history for career assists. Bankston needs eight more assists to move into the top 20 for career assists at Towson.

I'll Take That: Towson has recorded 42 steals through four CAA games this season. In CAA-only contests the Tigers are averaging a league-best 10.5 steals per game. Junior guard Danielle Durjan and redshirt senior guard Raine Bankston each have eight steals through the first four CAA games. Overall, the Tigers have 143 steals and rank fourth in the CAA while averaging 9.5 steals per game. Towson has recorded double-digit steals in seven contests this season. Sophomore guard Etalyia Vogt is tied for fourth in the CAA while averaging 2.1 steals per game.

Up Next: The Tigers head back on the road and make the short trip up I-95 to visit Delaware on Sunday, Jan. 14. Opening tip from Newark, Delaware is set for 2 p.m.
