50th Anniversary Countdown: Top Performances #3

TOWSON, Md. – In preparation for the 50th anniversary celebration of women's gymnastics at Towson University, TowsonTigers.com will be recognizing the top 10 performances in each event over the next 10 weeks leading up to the alumni meet on Sunday, February 18.
 
We will honor our alumni and student-athletes who hold the top 10 scores in the vault, uneven bars, balance beam, floor exercise, all-around and the top team scores from the program's first 49 seasons. We will also recognize their performances through social media on the gymnastics team's official Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts.
 
This week, we continue out countdown by looking at the athletes who hold the third-highest scores in each event.
 
The Tigers take on Gustavus Adolpus and Southern Connecticut on February 18 inside SECU Arena at 2 p.m. The meet will be preceded by a reception beginning at 12:30 p.m., for former gymnasts and their families. VAULT – 9.975
 
Kacy Cantazaro '12
The top-ranked vaulter in ECAC Division I in 2012 with a 9.87 regional qualifying score, Cantazaro broke the ECAC record with a 9.975 vault at the ECAC championship meet hosted by the University of Pennsylvania on Mar. 25, 2012. A four-time All-ECAC First Team selection on vault, she was named the 2012 ECAC Gymnast of the Year.
 
BARS – 9.950
 
Jenn Baierlein '03
Baierlein set a new career high with the second-highest bar score in school history to finish first in the event as the Tigers finished second to the University of Maryland in a quad meet at the Comcast Center on Feb. 22, 2003. James Madison was third followed by Texas Woman's University. Baierlein also finished third on floor.
 
BEAM – 9.925
 
Cari Zawistowski '05
In just her fourth career meet, Zawistowski posted what still stands as the school record, finishing third on beam at the sixth annual Governor's Cup hosted by North Carolina on Feb. 3, 2001. The Tigers, who finished second in the four team competition, teamed up with Maryland to win the Governor's Cup for the fifth time in the last six years.
 
FLOOR – 9.950
 
Liane Williams '99
Williams set what was the school record on the floor at the time. As a senior in 1999, she earned the Outstanding Senior Gymnast award and won EAGL championships on vault and floor. She finished her career with more than 1,500 points and helped lead the Tigers to three NCAA Southeast Regional appearances and two USA Gymnastics NIT championships.
 
ALL-AROUND – 39.575
 
Jenn Baierlein '03
Competing as an all-around for the 51st consecutive meet, Baierlein became the leading scorer in Towson gymnastics history in her final home meet as she took second with a career high 39.575 score on Mar. 21, 2003 in a win over Maryland. As a team, the Tigers posted the second-highest score in school history with a 196.625.
 
TEAM
 
195.525 at George Washington, Mar. 15, 2015
Towson scored a season-high in its regular-season finale at George Washington. The score was the highest team total in 12 years. The Tigers set 10 new career-highs and tied six career-highs as they were narrowly edged by George Washington who scored 196.875 points. Led by a career-high 9.900 and first-place finish from senior Lauren Ross, Towson set a new school record with a total of 49.250 on beam. Freshman Tyra McKellar and junior Vicki Vesecky tied for first on bars with matching 9.900 scores. McKellar and senior Samantha Lutz both competed in the all-around, finishing third and fourth, respectively.
