ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Senior
Jack Saunderson led the Towson University men's swimming and diving team by winning a pair of events at the Navy Invitation Friday afternoon.
Saunderson, who was selected to represent the United States at next summer's 2019 World University Games (XXX Summer Universiade) in Naples, Italy earlier this week, won the 200-yard freestyle in 1 minute, 40.85 seconds and the 100-yard butterfly in 47.25.
Towson defeated John Hopkins 222.5-64.5 and dropped a pair of decisions to William & Mary (148-140) and Navy (197.5-102.5).
How it Happened
- As well as competing in the individual events Saunderson teamed with Owen Robinson, Kenny Afolabi-Brown and Matt Essing to come in second in the 200-yard medley relay (1:31.84).
- Essing also competed in the 50-yard freestyle coming in second (20.69) while coming in third in the 100-yard freestyle (46.39).
- Ryan Baldino, Hunter Wright, Robinson and Essing tied for second in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:23.89).
- Ryan O'Leary had a second-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:04.65). He also took sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke (57.59).
- Robinson was second in the 100-yard backstroke (50.75).
- Evan Brophy competed in the 1000-yard freestyle placing in third (9:34.48) while coming in fourth in the 500-yard freestyle (4:39.95).
- Zach Bishop was third in the 200-yard backstroke (1:52.18).
- Nick McClure saw fifth-place in the 200-yard butterfly (1:52.83).
- On the diving side Will Canny had fifth place finishes scoring in the 1-meter 255.38 and 3-meter 273.15.
