TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's swimming and diving team will travel around I-695 Thursday for a meet with the Retrievers of UMBC. The meet begins at 4 p.m. at the UMBC Aquatic Complex.
A Tigers Roar
For seniors like
Ryan Ulrich it is always fun to stay local and compete, it gives the fans more opportunities to come out and watch. Ulrich is excited to compete against UMBC in their annual match up. Early season meets like this help the Tigers as they focus on their goal of a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) championship.
"Honestly, I'm looking forward to conference," said Ulrich. "It's kind of early in the season, but from what our women's team has demonstrated so far we've got a very good chance of bringing back the title to Towson. I'm also excited to see how our men's team performs. I think they're going to do big things at CAAs. I can't wait to see how it all pans out."
The Virginia native has had solid performances so far this season coming in third in the 50-yard freestyle at the Georgetown meet with a time of 24.37. Ulrich later had a strong outing last week in the quad-meet verses Navy, John Hopkins and William & Mary by improving her time in the 50-yard freestyle (24.03) and finishing in third. Ulrich was also on two relays teams that finished in the top five.
Last Time Out (3-2)
Towson defeated William & Mary 177-123 and John Hopkins 245-55 before falling to Navy 192.5-107.5.
Maddi Mangum had a solid performance by winning the 100-yard butterfly in 56.63 seconds. She also swam in a pair of relay teams that finished among the top three in their events. In the 200-yard freestyle she teamed up with Ulrich, Megan Jones and
Annemarie Schnoor to finish in second with a time of 1:36.14. She then competed alongside Jones, Ulrich and
Jacki Schoening in the 200-yard medley where they came in third in 1:44.38.
