CATONSVILLE, Md. – Jack Saunderson led the way as the Towson University men's swimming and diving team competed against UMBC Thursday evening. The Tigers fell 169-131.
Saunderson captured two events. He finished in first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 48.04 seconds before winning the 200-yard individual medley in 1:52.77.
How It Happened
- Ryan O'Leary won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 58.85.
- He then claimed victory in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:07.14).
- Nick McClure was victorious in the 200-yard butterfly (1:52.98).
- Matt Essing captured first in the 50-yard freestyle (20.59). He then came in second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 46.12.
- The 200-yard medley quartet of Owen Robinson, O'Leary, Saunderson and Essing came in second-place with a time of 1:31.81.
- In the 400-yard freestyle, Ryan Baldino, Evan Brophy, Zach Bishop and Essing were second (3:09.45).
- Aaron Magazine was second in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:48.69) while coming in third in the 500-yard freestyle (4:42.87).
- Brophy saw second-place in the 200-yard freestyle (1:42.58) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:38.25).
- Bishop was second in the 200-yard backstroke (1:52.51). He also came in fourth in the 100-yard backstroke (52.38).
- Kenny Afolabi-Brown finished in second in the 100-yard breaststroke (58.97).
- Robinson and Bishop had third and fourth place finishes respectively in the 100-yard backstroke.
- Saunderson also saw a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (1:42.99).
- Will Canny had top-three finishes in both diving competitions.
- In the 1-meter Canny finished in second scoring 254.10 and in the 3-meter finished in third scoring 252.52.
