BOX SCORE SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Sunday afternoon the Towson University women's basketball team faced its first ranked opponent of the season at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, New York, falling to No. 12 Syracuse 98-55.
The Tigers fall to 3-4 on the season while the Orange improve to 7-2.
How it Happened
- The opening few minutes ended with an 11-3 lead for the home team, before Towson climbed back and came within three points of tying it up, with an 18-15 score before the end of the first.
- Period one ended with a 23-17 score with an Orange lead and 11 points from redshirt sophomore Kionna Jeter.
- Towson continued to fight in the second period, but foul issues and turnovers hurt the Tigers as Syracuse made 15 of 18 free throws and ended the half with a 52-29 lead, on the way to victory.
- Jeter led the offense with 19 points, she shot 40 percent from the field, 40 percent from three and 75 percent from the free throw line.
- Freshman Janeen Camp made herself a career day with 11 points, eight rebounds, three steals and two assists in 21 minutes. All career and season highs for the rookie as she shot 50 percent from the field.
- Freshmen Cydney Rivera and Shavonne Smith both scored their first career points in the legendary gym. Rivera also played the most minutes in her career so far with eight, in a return to her home state.
- Senior Danielle Durjan matched her career-high in steals with two, while freshman Jennifer Davis played a career high three minutes.
- Sophomores Tess Borgosz and Rayna Barbour each played six minutes, a career high for Borgosz and a season-best for Barbour.
Looking Ahead
The Tigers return home on Tuesday morning for an 11 a.m. tip against local foe Loyola and the annual STEM Day game. Towson's SECU Arena will be filled with area schools to enjoy the game and participate in activities based on science, technology, engineering and math.
