PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Towson University women's gymnastics sophomore
Melissa Temkov posted career highs on bars and in the all-around as the Tigers finished fourth in a quad meet at Pittsburgh with N.C. State and Temple Saturday at Fitzgerald Field House.
No. 25 N.C. State finished first with 194.600 points, followed by Temple (193.875), Pittsburgh (193.125) and Towson (192.050).
Temkov was one of three Tigers to post career highs on bars as Towson posted a season high score of 48.850 to finish first among all four teams.
How It Happened
- The Tigers began the meet on beam where senior Tyra McKellar finished second with a season-high 9.750 while senior Gabriella Yarussi was seventh with a 9.700.
- McKellar also posted a top five finish on floor, finishing fifth with a 9.825, tying her season high set on January 14 at home against Temple and William & Mary. Temkov and senior Lauren Cahalan each finished in a tie for 12th with a score of 9.750. For Temkov, the mark was just 0.050 off her season and career best set three times this season. For Cahalan, it was her second-highest score this season.
- On vault, the Tigers had just gymnast in the top-10 as junior Cortni Baker finished ninth with a 9.625. Yarussi was the next highest finisher, placing 16th with a 9.575.
- Towson saved one of its best performances of the season for last as three gymnasts posted career highs on bars while a fourth was just 0.025 points away from her career best. Senior Katie McGrady led the way as she finished in a tie for first with a career-high 9.825. Freshman Tess Zientek was fourth with a career-high 9.800 while Temkov and Baker each finished seventh with a 9.775, a new career best for Temkov and just short for Baker.
- Temkov also posted a career-high in the all-around with a 38.475 to finish sixth while Baker, competing in the first all-around of her career, finished seventh with a 37.950.
