Towson Looking Forward To Spartan Classic

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University softball team hits the road after a perfect eight-game homestand. The Tigers will compete in the Spartan Classic hosted by UNC-Greensboro on Saturday and Sunday.
 
Towson, which has won 12 consecutive games, will play two games each against Canisius and UNCG. The Tigers (18-3 overall) meet Canisius (3-13) on Saturday at 11 a.m. and Sunday at 10 a.m. Towson plays host UNCG (16-7) Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at 12:30 p.m. There will be live stats for every game. Both games against UNCG will be streamed live free of charge.
 
First Pitch
Towson head coach Lisa Costello earned her 670th career victory following Towson's 10-0 win over Maryland Eastern Shore Thursday … In that same game, senior Brook Miko tied Sammie DiPompeo for the all-time program lead in RBIs with 140 … Miko also has 45 career doubles, which is second in program history … Nicole Stockinger has homered in three of Towson's last five games … Kendyl Scott has hit safely in eight straight games.
 
Nationally Speaking
Towson is ranked sixth nationally in scoring (7.37), seventh in batting average (.357), seventh in doubles per game (1.79), seventh in on-base percentage (.433) and 10th in slugging percentage (.549).
 
Perfection
Towson enjoyed an 8-0 homestand in which it outscored opponents, 55-6 … Scott was 14 for 24 (.583) with 11 RBIs and eight runs scored … Miko also had 11 RBIs and scored eight runs … She also had a .500 batting average … Kaylen Minnatee hit .500 during the homestand with six RBIs … Stockinger drove in 13 runs and hit three home runs … Shelby Stracher hit .438 … While the offense was impressive, Towson's pitching was phenomenal … The Tigers had a .090 earned run average … Each of its starting pitchers (Megan Dejter, Julia Smith-Harrington, and Melissa Abrahamian) all threw a shutout … Riley Thies and Daria Edwards had four stolen bases each.

CANISIUS
The Griffins have lost three straight. One of Canisius' victories was over East Carolina, a squad that's handed Towson two of its three losses. Canisius is hitting .187 on the year. Freshman Morgan Altman leads the Griffs with a .237 batting average, while freshman Kara Paradowski leads the squad with nine hits. Freshman Emily Nicosia has a record of 2-4 with a 2.18 ERA in nine appearances. Senior Erika Mackie leads the pitching staff with 22 strikeouts.
 
UNCG
Members of the Southern Conference (SoCon), the Spartans are the reigning tournament champions. They participated in the 2017 NCAA Division I Softball Tournament. The Spartans beat North Carolina A&T 10-1 on Thursday. UNCG's top hitters this season are Marissa Sholtes (.361), Gabrielle Cubbage (.328) and Jasmine Palmer (.319). Sholtes and Cubbage have combined to hit nine of UNCG's 18 homers this season. Makenna Matthjis leads the Spartans with 15 RBIs. The Spartans have a 2.44 earned run average led by Stephanie Bryden (6-1, 1.76) and Alicia Bazonski (7-2, 1.77). UNCG owns an 8-4 lead in the all-time series versus Towson. The Tigers won the last meeting 1-0 on March 20, 2013.
