SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Megan Dejter

Over the next six weeks one of Towson's senior softball student-athletes will be featured. This week we caught up with pitcher Megan Dejter, who is majoring in psychology and believes "a solid game of pregame hackey sack is always a must."

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University softball team hosts rival Delaware in its second Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) series of the season. Towson and Delaware will play a doubleheader Saturday starting at noon. The series concludes with a 1 p.m. single game on Easter Sunday.

Dejter will most likely start one of the three games. Take some time to get to know Dejter. She has a 2.43 earned run average, seven complete games and a 9-3 record in 18 appearances for the Tigers, who have won 11 consecutive home contests.

Why did you choose Towson?
"It was important for me to be close to my family. Towson was a good fit where I could be close and get a lot of opportunities to compete."

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Snapchat?
"Instagram."

What do you like most about playing softball?
"As a pitcher, I like the feeling of having the ball in my hand and knowing that I control the game."

What is your favorite thing about playing for Coach Costello?
"When I have two strikes on a girl and she screams 'make it dance!"

What does your uniform number mean to you?
"I had always been No. 2 because that was my brother's number for almost all of his career, so when I came to Towson and No. 2 was not an option I picked a number that was similar to keep the tradition."

What's the most challenging aspect of being a student-athlete?
"Remembering that at the end of the day it is just a game."

If you could play another sport for one day, which one would it be and why?
"Volleyball because it's inside so I would never have to play in the cold again and it just looks like a lot of fun to play."

Who's the first person you are calling or texting after games?
"My dad - he has always been my go to."

Who was your favorite athlete growing up and why?
"Derek Jeter. He's one of the best to ever play the game and he's definitely not bad to look at."

What age did you know you wanted to play softball in college and what made you realize that?
"Playing college softball had always been the goal for me since I was pretty young. I honestly never really questioned it. Softball was always the thing that I looked forward to and I never got tired of it, so when I got the opportunity to play in college it was a no brainer."

What song/band is most likely to be playing on your phone?
"Thomas Rhett"

What current show could you see yourself being a part of?
"Gilmore Girls. My mom is the Lorelei to my Rory."

What is the best thing about attending Towson?
"My teammates. I can't imagine having not met my best friends."

Last movie you watched?
"Sandlot on the bus. It's such a classic."

Favorite vacation destination?
"Hawai'i."

Most memorable team road trip and why?
"Our trip to California my sophomore year. During a day when one of our games was rained out, a bunch of us toured San Francisco with my parents. We spent the whole day exploring Fisherman's Wharf and eating Ghirardelli chocolates."

What will you miss about your teammates and being part of the Towson softball program?
"I will miss pretty much everything about my teammates, crazy quirks and all."

Words to live by?
"Pray more. Worry less."

A Look At Delaware: The Blue Hens lost two out of three games to Drexel last week in their opening CAA series. Delaware has dropped four straight after losing two games to Saint Joseph's Wednesday 4-2 & 6-2. Anna Steinmetz, who has reached base in 10 straight games, went 3 for 3 in the opener and added a hit in the nightcap. Steinmetz leads UD with a .355 batting average, seven homers, and 20 RBIs. Leanna Gearhart (.300 average) and Moriah Kondravy (.288) are also top performers for the Blue Hens, who are 7-20 overall. Hitting .230 as a team, Delaware is 0-4 in away games this season.
