The Fast Break

  • Towson and UNCW officially open the 2018 CAA Women's Basketball Tournament, tipping off at the Daskalakis Athletic Center at 2 p.m.
  • The teams meet for the second time in less than a week after squaring off in WIlmington, N.C. last Friday.
  • Both home teams won the previous two meetings this season, Towson 72-71 on Jan. 12 and UNCW 64-53 last week.
  • Towson's PRA is led by a pair of seniors and a sophomore. Senior Mary Cuevas paces in points (13.1), sophomore Nukiya Mayo averages 9.1 rebounds per game while Raine Bankston hands out 2.2 assists per outing.
  • The Tigers are making their 16th appearance in the CAA Tournament since joining the league for the 2002-03 season.
  • Wednesday's game will mark the 35th time Towson plays in a conference tournament, dating back to 1983 when Towson first appeared in the East Coast Conference tournament.
  • The Tigers have played in tournaments in four different leagues: East Coast Conference (1983-92), Big South (1992-95), America East (1996-2001) and the CAA (2002-18).

SERIES HISTORY

  • Towson and UNCW will meet for a third time this season.
  • The Tigers and Seahawks will meet in the CAA Tournament for the firs time since 2010-11.

SWAT CITY

  • The Tigers rank 15th in Division in total blocks this season and second in the CAA behind William & Mary.

  • Mary Cuevas is 35th in the country in individual blocked shots with 63 in 2017-18. Nukiya Mayo is also ranked 135th in the country in blocks (39).
  • Likewise, Cuevas is also 36th in Division I in blocks per game, bumping away 2.17 per outing, which is second in the league.

  • A big-time contributor to that ranking is Nukiya Mayo. The sophomore forward reels in 5.0 offensive rebounds per game, which ranks first in the league and fourth in the country. She has 144 total offensive rebounds, which is good enough for fifth in total among Division I student-athletes.
