TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University softball team visits Georgetown Tuesday night. The game starts at 6 p.m. It will be played at the Nationals' Youth Academy in Southeast Washington, D.C.
Winners of nine of their last 11 games, the Tigers (32-11 overall) lead the nation in doubles per game (1.95). They are fifth in scoring (6.74 runs per game), sixth in batting average (.335), 10th in slugging percentage (.516), and 11th in on-base percentage (.410).
The individual statistics are insane. For brevity, just a few of the categories where they are ranked is listed.
Senior
Kendyl Scott is ranked in the top 50 nationally in nine categories. Among the highlights, Scott is second in doubles (19), fourth in doubles per game (0.46), fourth in hits (65) and seventh in batting average (.471). She's also the eighth toughest batter to strikeout in the country.
Senior
Brook Miko is ranked in top 50 nationally in 11 categories. She's second in the country in RBIs (58) and RBIs per game (1.35). Miko is fifth in doubles (17), 10th in runs per game (1.09), and 24th in hits (57). Sophomore
Madison Wilson is 12th in doubles (15) and 44th in hits (54). Junior
Nicole Stockinger, who leads Towson with 10 homers, is 18th nationally in RBIs (46).
Senior
Daria Edwards enters Tuesday's game with a 10-game hitting streak. Senior pitcher
Megan Dejter leads Towson with 16 victories and 15 complete games. Senior
Shelby Stracher is Towson's all-time home run leader after blasting the 38th of her career against Elon.
While they have been the headliners this season, everybody on the Tigers roster have made meaningful contributions to their success this season.
Freshman
Riley Thies hit .444 over four games last week while freshman
Melissa Abrahamian tossed her second career shutout. Sophomore
Julia Smith-Harrington was solid in playing first base during a doubleheader sweep of Elon.
Juniors
Kendall Arcia and
Kaylen Minnatee had multi-hit games and showcased terrific defense during its series against Elon. Their contributions helped turn the lineup over and over again.
Junior
Cassidy Meyer had a RBI against Morgan State. Sophomore
Jessica Swistock, sophomore
Jaclyn Mounie, and senior
Olivia Baltazar have also had some great moments this season.
"Every part of the team is starting to show up," Dejter said after the Tigers win over Elon on Sunday. "The hitting is awesome. The defense has been amazing especially this weekend. And we have pitching. Everything is starting to come together and it's a good feeling to have especially during the middle of your conference season."
Edwards is finding her groove at the plate lately. She has a .444 average over that span and a pair of home runs.
"I am trying to see the ball, let it travel and staying relaxed," Edwards said. "When I tense up and try to do too much, I don't too well. Even if I don't get the outcome I want, I know my teammates are going to have my back. That's what has been helping us produce all of these runs. We do a good job of picking each other up."
Members of the Big East Conference, Georgetown enters with a 12-29 record. The Hoyas are 4-6 at home. The top hitters for Georgetown are Theresa Kane (.324), Mallory Belknap (.317), and Noelle Holiday (.314). Anna Brooks Pacha leads Georgetown with a 4.29 earned run average and eight wins. The Hoyas lost two out of three to Butler over the weekend, including a 13-9 loss on Sunday.
Following this game, Towson will play eight of its final 11 games at home including its next five games.
The Tigers meet UNCW in a three-game weekend set beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 21 at noon. The series concludes with a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
