TOWSON, Md. – There will plenty of activity and excitement on the Towson University campus this weekend with its annual Tigerfest.
Part of the fun will include the Towson University softball team, which will host UNCW in a key three-game Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) series beginning with a Saturday doubleheader at noon and a Sunday single game at 1 p.m.
This begins a closing stretch in which the Tigers will play eight of their last 11 games at home.
Tigerfest is an annual celebration of the best aspects of student life at Towson University. Traditionally held during the third week of April, Tigerfest features arts, athletics, academics, an outdoor festival, a concert at SECU Arena, and the largest community service event of the year — The Big Event.
More importantly, Towson will host its annual Parkville Rec Day on Saturday as the Tigers welcome local youth softball teams. In between games of the doubleheader, there will be a parade of all the Parkville Rec teams. There will also be giant inflatables for fans to enjoy themselves and have fun.
On Sunday, as part of the Towson University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee's (SAAC) #OwnYourRoar Campaign, various student-athletes will be tabling and helping to spread awareness for mental healthcare.
Student-athletes from the women's lacrosse, men's lacrosse, and softball teams will wear the temporary tattoos on their forearms during the games. Also, fans will be able to get #OwnYourRoar promotional items from the table that will be at the game.
The #Own Your Roar campaign is an awareness program for mental health that encourages students and student-athletes to #Own Your Roar and advocate for their own mental health.
On both days, there will be giveaways such as shirts, autographed posters, stress balls, cups and rally towels. In addition there will be family-friendly activities that will include a moon bounce, face painter and balloon artist.
While there's plenty of off the field activities to make many kids happy, Towson's nationally-ranked offense should keep fans entertained.
