Tigers Hang With the Cool Kids

TOWSON, Md. – It was time for the rubber to meet the road for the Towson University men's lacrosse team.

After all of the publicity surrounding the team's custom Cascade S helmets and the sale of those helmets benefitting the Cool Kids Campaign, the Tigers hung out at the Cool Kids Clubhouse Wednesday afternoon.

A large majority of the men's lacrosse student-athletes, coaches and support staff were on hand as the Tigers hung out with the Cool Kids. The Cool Kids Campaign is devoted to improving the quality of life for pediatric oncology patients and their families by focusing on the academic, social and emotional needs brought on by a cancer diagnosis.

The Tigers hung out at the Clubhouse, playing games like "keep it up" with a balloon, teaching basic lacrosse skills and general fun, helping the Cool Kids, and their parents, hit pause on all the stresses of a cancer diagnosis.

It was a unique opportunity for the Towson men's lacrosse team to meet and see the building where their helmet sales will make a direct impact. Cool Kids Campaign sends out care packages nationwide with toys and books for cancer patients and often for their siblings. The Tigers formed a bond with the Cool Kids, who will join team on the field in the pregame fan tunnel as Towson takes on Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) rival Drexel Friday night under the lights at Johnny Unitas ® Stadium.

The custom chrome Cascade S helmets, which sold out in 36 hours, were revealed on Lax Sports Network last Wednesday afternoon. In addition to the 59 helmets sold, there is one helmet up for auction on TowsonTigers.com/Auctions that has been signed by the entire 2018 Towson University men's lacrosse team. Bids are in $25 intervals and will go to the highest bidder on Saturday evening.

Designed by assistant coach and defensive coordinator Dan Cocchi, in conjunction with Zima Gear, the helmets feature a cartoon version the Towson athletics mascot, Doc the Tiger, playing lacrosse. The back of the helmets features the Cool Kids Campaign logo while the chin strap has the organization's motto "Cancer Fears Me" on the chin cup. Along the second bar of the face mask, Cascade included the words Cool Kids. The gray of the chrome helmets represents those affected by brain cancer while the top vent area features a yellow cancer ribbon.
