TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University men's lacrosse team's strong performance in the classroom has earned the Tigers the 2026 United States Intercollegiate Association (USILA) Team Academic Award.
The USILA Team Academic Award honors programs which achieved a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) or higher during the academic year. It is the third straight year Towson has earned this team award.
In addition, four Tigers have been honored as 2026 USILA Scholar All-Americans:
Matt Nilan,
Alex Roussel,
Ryan Schrier and
Joaquin Villagomez. All earn this achievement for the first team.
A Scholar All-American must be nominated by his coach and be a student with a senior year academic standing, be a strong athletic performer and a cumulative grade point average of 3.0. The USILA committee reviews and selects the Scholar All-Americans. Towson has had at least three USILA Scholar All-Americans in each of the last three years.
Nilan was the 2026 CAA Defensive Player of the Year and a USILA All-America Honorable Mention after leading the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) with a 9.75 goals allowed average and 55.3% save rate. The redshirt junior earned his degree in business administration – finance.
Roussel earned All-CAA Second Team attack this season after finishing with 36 goals, 15 assists and 27 ground balls, being fifth in the CAA with 3.40 points game and recording eight hat tricks. Roussel also earned his degree in business administration – finance.
Schrier, a team captain, picked up his first-ever all-league honor as an All-CAA Second Team midfielder this season, tallying up 10 goals, 11 assists and nine ground balls in 15 games. The redshirt junior graduated with a degree in economics.
Villagomez was honored as All-CAA First Team and CAA All-Tournament Team at attack this year, amassing 40 goals, 22 assists, 28 ground balls and six caused turnovers, finishing second in the league with 4.13 points per game. The redshirt junior earned a degree in computer science.
