Friedman to be Inducted into National Hall of Fame

SPARKS, Md. - U.S. Lacrosse announced on Wednesday that former Towson University women's lacrosse player Leigh Buck Friedman '75 will be one of nine individuals inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame on September 29 at the Grand Lodge in Hunt Valley.

Freidman, who was known as Leigh Buck at Towson, is the third member of the women's lacrosse program to be inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame. She joins former teammate Sandy Hoody (Class of 2002) and Pat Dillon (Class of 2008).

"Lacrosse has had a major impact on my life, said Friedman. "I started playing as a young girl with my older brothers and always found joy in playing and later coaching the game I loved. Upon arriving at Towson, I was challenged to always be my best by Hall of Fame coach Maggie Faulkner and future Hall of Fame goalie, Sandy Hoody. It is such an honor to be chosen as a member of the Hall of Fame and I am humbled to be included with by all the extraordinary women who have come before me. I am also proud to join my grandfather, Philip Lamb, who is in the Lacrosse Hall of Fame (Class of 1965)."

Friedman will be inducted as a truly great player. Following a four-year varsity career at Friends School, including undefeated teams in 1968 and 1969, she played two years at Ithaca University before transferring to Towson for the 1974 and 1975 seasons. She was a two-sport athlete for the Tigers, playing field hockey in 1973 and 1974. She traveled to Argentina in 1973 as a member of the U.S. field hockey team. She was inducted into the Towson University Athletics Hall of Fame in 1993.

Friedman was a member of the U.S. Women's National Team for four years from 1972 to 1975 and played on the 1975 U.S. Touring Team that finished undefeated in Great Britain. She finished as the team's
leading scorer during that tour. As a club player, she had a four-year run as a member of the South squad at the Women's National Tournament.

This marks Friedman's fourth hall of fame induction. In addition to the Towson University Athletics Hall of Fame, she was inducted as a member of the inaugural class for the Friends School and was inducted into the US Lacrosse Greater Baltimore Chapter Hall of Fame in 1997.

Following her playing career, Friedman has served as a coach at various camps in the Mid-Atlantic region, a teacher at Park School and as the athletics director as Garrison Forest. For the last 21 years, she has served as a teacher and administrator at McDonogh School where she is currently the Fifth Grade Dean and head of the Wellness Department. She earned her bachelor of science degree from Towson in 1975 and her masters of education from Loyola Maryland in 2005.

Friedman joins Kevin Cassese, A.J. Haugen, Alex Kahoe, Phyllis Kilgour, David Morrow, Ryan Powell, Denise Wescott, and Tami Worley in the Class of 2018.

Tickets for the 2018 National Lacrosse Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, sponsored by RPS Bollinger and the Markel Insurance Company, will be available to the public for purchase beginning August 1. Tickets will be sold online at uslacrosse.org/HOF.

The National Lacrosse Hall of Fame, a program of US Lacrosse, was established in 1957 to honor men and women who by their deeds as players, coaches, officials and/or contributors, and by the example of their lives, personify the great contribution of lacrosse to our way of life. Over 400 lacrosse greats are honored in the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame, which is located alongside the National Lacrosse Museum at the US Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks, Maryland.
