INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Towson University women's lacrosse team was selected to its 10th NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Championship as a No. 7 national seed and will host the winner between Wagner and Mercer at Unitas Stadium on Friday, May 11.

The Tigers, who are making their third-straight NCAA appearance and sixth under eighth-year head coach Sonia LaMonica, will also host Northwestern and Richmond on Friday with the two winners advancing to the second round on Sunday, May 13.

Towson has never played Wagner or Mercer, but the Tigers do have a connection to Mercer where former standout Michelle Gildea '17 is an assistant coach. Towson has also never faced Northwestern, but owns an 11-9 record against Richmond. The two teams last met on March 16, 2013 in Richmond with the Spiders taking a 17-10 victory.

Wagner, champions of the Northeast Conference, is making its second NCAA tournament appearance and second in the last three years. Mercer won the Southern Conference and will be making its first-ever NCAA appearance.

Seven-time national champion Northwestern is making its 20th NCAA appearance and 15th consecutive after receiving an at-large selection. The Wildcats are no strangers to Unitas Stadium having advanced to championship weekend all four years in which Towson has hosted in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2014. They won national championships in 2008 and 2009, lost to Maryland in the title game in 2010 and fell to Syracuse in the national semifinals in 2014.

After winning the Atlantic 10, Richmond is making its fourth NCAA tournament appearance and first since 2007. The Spiders have not won in five previous games at Unitas Stadium (since 2002).
